unlocked pearl 9100 getting only "edge" and not "EDGE" on tmobile HELP!!!!!!
 
I have tried everything I know at this point, so I thought I would come to the experts. Here's the situation:

I bought an unlocked Pearl 9100. I got a new sim from tmobile and plugged it in and can only get "Edge" service (so no data).

Sim works in old pearl (gets EDGE service immediately).

To answer a few common questions- 1. yes I have BB data plan(enterprise deal) and 2. yes I have both soft and hard reset the device.

I have also tried setting it to just 2g, tried typing in the APN settings, cursed at it, etc.

I am clearly missing something. ANY help is very much appreciated.

Did you switch the devices in your BIS account? From your description, it sounds like BIS is still configured for the old pearl.

t-mobile cannot recognize the new device. they only show my old pearl. the current issue appears to be no "provisioning."

OK. Because you got EDGE (all caps) with your SIM and the old pearl, I assume you have a BlackBerry data plan.

Do you have a BlackBerry plan on your T-Mobile account? Not just a regular mobile data plan, but data service specifically for BlackBerrys?

And are you using T-Mobile USA. I can't see your profile.

If you have a BlackBerry data plan, you should only need to change the device PIN in your BIS settings and make sure service books are sent to the handset. If you've done that, and done a hard reset, then it's time to call T-Mobile and have them check over your account on their end.

I am T-mobile USA (I assume since I am in Texas). I definitely have BB enterprise plan.

Ok. That's new info and bad assumption on my part. BES?

I'm almost totally ignorant of BES. See what others say. If you are on a company BES, you may need to talk to your IT POC.

have spent all morning with RIM and TMO. In the end nobody can figure it out. TMO says PIN and IME cannot be recognized (they try to manually enter but can't). RIM says that the device is working because it gets Internet (which nobody can explain when it only shows "edge").

crazy.

If any experts have thoughts, let me know.

You can get data on edge, just not BIS or BES data.

From your last post it sounds like the PIN on the new BlackBerry is still associated with another account, or some other problem with the PIN. Maybe you bought an engineering model and the PIN has been deactivated? Are you sure you bought a genuine BlackBerry?

Or, wait until an expert responds to you.

Sounds to me like the PIN is either blacklisted or still associated with the last owner's BIS. It it's blacklisted because it was reported lost or stolen, then your our of luck. If it's simply still associated with the previous owner's account you need to contact that owner and have him remove it from his account.

At any rate, you would expect the experts at customer service to be able to figure out which case it is.

the phone is brand new. It has not been used previously. Obviously, the stolen concern is still there, but th efolks it was purchased from seem reasonably credible (of course you never know).

RIM could not identify any issue with the pin. It was intereting that RIM showed it as a tmo phone when tmo has never sold these.

The PIN issue aside, do you know that T-Mobile will even push the necessary service books for that model? I don't know the answer; only that if T-Mobile doesn't sell it they may not support it. And that would also explain the little help you got from T-Mobile. I'm surprised T-Mobile didn't tell you straight away that it couldn't help.
