Latest OS: 8230 4.6.1.454/4.6.1.309 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Pearl Flip (TM) 8230 smartphone from SaskTel

This will load to any carrier's 8230 device by following the directions below.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.1.454 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.1.454
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.6.1.309
* Software Platform: 3.3.0.95
* File name: 8230AMEA_PBr4.6.1_rel454_PL3.3.0.95_A4.6.1.309_Sas kTel.exe
* File size: 90.59MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...4571FBD180E1C8

Instructions for installing on ANY 8230(regardless of carrier)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Note For Advanced Users Only: If you plan on deleting the cod file for pre-installed media your exterior LCD will not function correctly. This does not pertain to people doing normal installs. You will not be affected.

Just a note to (hopefully) eliminate some frustration for those attempting to upgrade. The 8230 updates won't load on any 8230. Apparently there are two types of 8230s, one needs the 8230mAMEA_PBr... version OS and the other needs the 8230AMEA_PBr... (no "m") version OS. I don't know how to tell the difference. I do know my Verizon Wireless 8230 needs the 8230AMEA_PBr... version, it will not load the 8230mAMEA_PBr version.

Has there been no more OS updates for the 8230 since this one? That's a bit odd...

Any info on how this software update works as compared to the earlier 4.6.1.284?
Strange that this update is over a year old...looks like the Flip Pearl 8230 is officially dead...
Thx.

The 8230mAMEA is for CDMA devices with an MEID instead of an ESN. It won't work for any GSM devices like the 8220.
