My Blackberry curve 8520 says no updates avaible but it is running 4.6 ??
 

I got my bb 2 days ago and i relaised it had the old version of the software (4.6) and the old bb messenger .so i went on wirless update and clicked search for updates and it says no update is availble.but 1 of my other friends got thier bb a month ago with 5,0 installed on it .how do i get the 5.0 software?

I don't have experience with wireless updates. Here are three other options:

Install Desktop Manager (download from blackberry.com). Run it. Connect the BlackBerry. Select check for updates.

Download the OS installer package from your service provider. Run the installer. Then run Desktop Manager or loader.exe. Connect the BlackBerry and install the new OS.

See the latest OS thread here on the forum and download and install following the instructions. This version may be newer than the version released by your service provider.

thanks i downloaded the desktop mananger but it doesnt connect to my blackberry.my computer regonises it but not the desktop manager

Go to the link below
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
click on your service provider
select your device from the drop down
download the most current OS for your device
install it then RUN Desktop Manager

Desktop Manager should then see that you have a update available

The reason none show in DM is that there are no "official" OS releases by your carrier at the present time. However, if you wish, you may upgrade to OS 5.0 using the information above.

Make sure that you install the OS for your specific model, the 8520 and follow our instructions EXACTLY. Both the OS and instructions may be found int he yellow sticky at the top of the 8500 section.

And a note of caution: If you ar enew to BB and just received this one, perhaps you shoudl use it for awhiole before deciding if it is broken and needs to be fixed by an OS upgrade. You may find that you like it just as it is and it works for you as you want and need.
