Sprint Tour Release July 20?
|
Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)
Just saw that. Hope its true! |
Today I had a call with our sprint Rep and she confirmed the July 20th release.
Regards |
Not anymore hahah if you guys saw on the blogosphere, Sprint just matched the date with Verizon, July 12!
Enjoy ;-) |
Wouldn't you think if you signed up for notification on the Sprint website you would have gotten something stating when it was going to release the TOUR?
I have the two dates July 12th (matching Verizon's release date) and July 20th. But there has been NO OFFICIAL word from Sprint on when this will release so we still have to wait. |
There is a banner on the sprint website stating a July 12th release of the tour.
Does anyone know if the Tour from sprint has tethering capability? |
Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)
Yes, I know the Sprint one will, at Rev A speeds (like connection cards) |
Does the sprint tour use "smartView" to tether?
I was told you cant tether the Tour by Sprint BB support. As always, Im confused. |

I thought I'd answered this earlier, but I see you posted in the Tethering thread as well. I've been using it daily since I got my Tour on 7/15, so hope it works for you... |

You can download it from Sprint - Software Downloads - Select your device type or http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/spr...s2.25.0046.exe
I'm literally ecstatic about the software. I canceled my broadband @ home so using it daily anywhere from 6-12 hours. I use it for my BB and my children use it for their Sprint phones, as well. I never lose connection and it's always fast and reliable. Edit: If you use more than 5g/month data transfer, you'll need to purchase the Phone As Modem add-on for $15/month; less data transfer monthly is considered casual. I do know that PAM is not available for Sprint customers with Simply Everything, but I believe you can still tether (casually). I, of course, use LOTS of data transfer so I really don't mind the $15 price tag. |

I really don't know how to instruct you in getting the application to recognize your device, but I do know that the correct BB drivers need to be installed on your computer.
Try this: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BA35836C016D04 I apologize, but again, once I plug in the device I get an automatic connection. |
Lobster,
Found this info searching on Crackberry. *The Tour is not supported by Sprint Smart View. Please find the instructions below on how to set up PAM. *Blackberry –*Existing Blackberry’s are supported in SSV for PAM,*however starting with the Blackberry Tour (9630),*the phone will need to be connected via tethering. *To get it connected just install the Blackberry Desktop Manager available on either the CD included with the device packaging or**www.sprint.com/downloads.* Once installed, connect your handset via the USB cable.* This will install a series of hardware components and you may encounter a “Windows Logo” testing message, just click “Continue Anyway” if you see one or more of these windows.* Finally you will need to create a new Dial-Up Connection (DUN) on the PC. *Create a DUN connection.* ******** Go to Start > Settings > Network Connection > New Connection Wizard ******** Welcome screen click “Next” ******** Network Connection Type screen select “Connect to the Internet” and click “Next” ******** Getting Ready screen select “Set up my connection manually” and click “Next” ******** Internet Connection screen select “Connect using dial-up modem” and click “Next” ******** Select a Device screen select “Modem – Standard Modem (COMx)” and deselect all other options, then click “Next” ******** Connection Name screen type in a description name for your new connection (example: Blackberry DUN) then click “Next” ******** Phone Number to Dial screen enter “#777” and click “Next” ******** Connection Availability screen select “Anyone’s use” radio button and click “Next” ******** Internet Account Informationscreen leave the defaults (User name, Password, Confirm password fields should be blank and the box two check boxes should be checked) and then click “Next” ******** Completing the New Connection Wizardscreen check the box to have shortcut to your new connection added to your desktop. *This step is optional but very useful when using you Blackberry to dial the Vision network. *Then click “Finish”.*Your new connection window will be displayed or you can access it via the icon on your desktop if you selected to option to create a shortcut, otherwise it will be listed under Start > Settings > Network Connections > Connection Name (reflects the name you entered on the Connection Name step above).*Important step:* Open the Black Berry Desktop Manager. This must be open…just minimize it to get it off the desktop if you prefer.* ******** Then click the “Dial” button on your new connection and it will connect to Vision. Sprints PAM instructions in a .pdf format are here: http://www.berryosfiles.com/download...structions.pdf Works like a champ. Hope this helps. |
The Tour is definitely supported by SmartView. I assume getting the correct configuration is key, but the DUN connection just looks like (hmmm), a lot! I never have to open DM or even click anything for it to start-up. Plug it in and surfing in 5-10 seconds...
Well, I do hope that those alternate instructions work for you. I'll continue to thank the Lord that my connection is seamless and reliable thru the Sprint software. (y) |
dhoffa: your method works perfectly! Thanks! Wonder why SmartView will not connect to the device? Will keep on trying. In the meantime I will use the dialup that I have created.
edit: I am using the connection right now. Tested the speed 1.06 down, .30 up. |
First things first, I should have started a new thread regarding the connection problems I am experiencing with SmartView. I think I may have found the problem. I downloaded the SprintView app on Sprint's website. As the Tour is not listed, I used the 8330 page. When trying to configure, I found only one choice for a profile "mobile", according to the help screen there should be several choices for profiles. One of the choices should be "dialup". Of course it is not there. The help file says if "dialup" is not listed, then it is not supported in the version of SmartView I have installed. 64,000 question, is there another version I should be looking for? I currently have version 2.25.0046.0 installed.
|
I use the "Mobile" profile on SmartView. The DUN connection setup described was auto-configured by SmartView, but I knew the process from using the "old", now defunct, Sprint Vision connectivity software since 2004.
Just glad to hear that the other process worked for you. |
I just found out today that a new version of SmartView is going to be released in a couple weeks. I have a link from my Sprint rep to download it and will be testing it tomorrow. It's is specifically for supporting the Tour and is version 2.25.0047.
