Problem W/ the O2 Theme on 7100i
Okie dokie, I have a problem everytime I try to use this particular theme.
Here's what I get. "Uncaught exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException" Every single time I've tried to use this theme (after multiple downloads) I've gotten this message. Keep in mind, I've used more themes than I can count and have never had a problem. Any help? I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |
Sheesh man, how difficult is it to get a simple answer around here?
|
being sarcastic like that wont get you any help either. People might have a life outside of this forum
|
OK - here's a real answer. You have a Nextel BlackBerry. Don't use themes that Nextel hasn't tested.
DONE! |
Your kidding right? How about trying NEXTEL tested themes that are supported on your 7100i?

Well, the reason I asked is because I've read threads where people with my particular model HAVE used that particular theme (which happens to be my favorite).
So no need trying to play me for an idiot. And by the way, I already have the Nextel supported themes. They suck. |
We don't need to play you for the idiot. You are doing a fine job.
Enjoy the themes. Themes break BlackBerrys. Themes break the calculator. Keep hacking and you will eventually break it. |
If you have not downloaded and installed the BlackBerry Handheld software to your machine, then I'd suggest doing this prior to doing any of the steps listed below. The O2 theme is listed as "net_rim_theme_125_240x260.cod" in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7100i-v4.1.0.136_P2.0.0.44\Java
To load it up, you will need to open the BlackBerry.alx file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7100i-v4.1.0.136_P2.0.0.44 with Notepad and look for the following: Code:
<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0" _vendorID="111|125"> Code:
<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0"> You can look for the 100 (T-Mobile), 105 (Verizon) and 120 (Vodafone) entries in the BlackBerry.alx file and do the same concept with them, as well - their theme files are included. Although I made the themes for 4.0 available for download, it was simply for those who do not know how to open things with Notepad or for those who just don't want to be bothered with some manual work; however, I'd never suggest that method of loading themes over the above ALX editing method. |
Thanks alot jibi. I really appreciate the help.

Jibi, I just stumbled onto this thread, and I want to thank you for your information!! I was beginning to miss the O2 theme on my 8700, but your info helped me to get the Vodafone, O2, and Orange themes up on my 8700.
|
Ok, so I went into the notepad and deleted all the excess restriction codes after each Java="1.0"> for Orange, Vodaphone, T-Mo, Verizon, O2 and Bell Mobility, but when I go into Themes on my 8700 there only appear two new options - Orange and Vodaphone, but when I click on either of them there is no option to activate, only options are: Check Spelling, Thesarous, Dictionary, Download Themes or Close. What did I do wrong?
I noticed that only the Cingular one has this in it: series="8700" Should I add that to the other ones to make them work on my 8700? |

Code:
<!-- Bell Mobility Canada filesets --> |
Copied and pasted, but now the application loader on desktop says no actions required - as if no change was made to the alx file - what now?

Close DM again, edit the file with my info above, then re-open DM and see if it goes properly. Also are you on BES? |
Not on BES, and like an idiot, did not backup original alx file...

Well, here is a fresh ALX: Code:
<loader version="1.0"> |
This time the DM said it was uninstalling something about a tunesbuilder tune thingamajig on 8700, that's all. Now I will try to insert the theme portion and restart DM.
|
Ok. I'm leaving work now, but I'll be on later if you still need help.
|
Still doesn't work..... I give up.

Orange (119) and Vodafone (120) are for the 7200 series and would require net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod in order to be activated, which is why you aren't given the option.
The only 320x240 themes physically available with the Cingular handheld software are Cingular (102), Dimension List, Insight List, Insight Icon, and the default theme. Rogers' handheld software offers Orange and Vodafone, in addition to the ones listed above. There's no O2 theme offered with either of these packages. You could download and install a 7100 handheld software to your PC and copy the O2 theme from it to your 8700 installation and then do the alterations in the ALX file. The 7100 software from Hong Kong does have listings for the 8700 model theme from O2, both in List and Icon format, but the files are not in that package. |
