Another topic about charging issue

A few days ago I bought a second hand Blackberry playbook. It was without a charger, but still had some battery and functioned perfectly, and connected to PC through USB. Today I bought a charger(unoriginal, couldn't find an original one anywhere and didn't want to wait for shipment from other country)(Charger output:5,2V; 2,1A, original charger output:5V; 1,8A). Now my playbook is stuck at 0% battery. It won't turn off while plugged in, but it won't charge either. It didn't charge while it was above 0%. I don't want tips about holding buttons or leaving overnight, I want to know if an original charger would save me and is the original wall charger special in any way(other than output voltage).

I don't have a definite answer for you, but I think your evidence shows the PlayBook doesn't work with that charger.

I guess there is no one you know, no way to borrow an OEM charger for a test?

I think Playbook may be very picky regarding voltage. Maybe you can find a charger matching the PB's specs . Did you try connecting the PB to your PC? It can be charged from the PC even though it shows that unable to charge warning. I've tested my own several times and it does charge event though it's obviously much slower.

I tried a Samsung charger and it works, so I guess the problem was with the other charger, though it works fine with other devices. The charging right now is quite slow, so I'm waiting for the original charger shipment.

BlackBerry devices are configured to either talk to a driver in USB master (Desktop PC for example) to ensure that the USB port can supply enough current to charge, or detect a specific electrical configuration that indicates a dedicated charger. The latter usually requires a charger or cable specifically built for BlackBerry.

HipStreet makes a PlayBook travel kit that has car and wall chargers and a multi-headed cable that will charge any existing BlackBerry device but only when using the supplied cable. There may be other third party suppliers available in your area.

If the first charger you got has a replaceable USB cable you might try replacing it with a BlackBerry branded USB cable. If that does you might be able to return the charger you ordered and get by PlayBook rapid charger instead, the one that connects to the three prong magnetic connector. It is well worth having if you use your PlayBook a lot.
