Google Maps 4.5.2 Failing to Locate
 

When I locate these coordinates:

a) -18.07106, 32.85593 google maps instead locates -18.076275, 32.859481

b) -28.822117, 28.726845 Google Maps instead locates -28.805472, 28.697541

Both of these points are way off! Google Maps never used to do that. Why has it started doing this?

I would suspect Google is giving a general location. Both seem to be in the same area so accuracy is dependent on accuracy of the GPS clock or if the GPS is unavailable then the cell site triangulation is required and that can be off a lot. Another thought, those locations appear to be in the middle of nowhere and not near any roads or landmarks. Maybe Google is inaccurate in these circumstances.
It could also be the Blackberry.

Yes the points are in the middle of no where: my sisters log cabin and a skiing resort in Lesotho. I used these coordinates to visit these places using google maps. With its current failure to precisely locate the correct place it will be impossible to locate the same places now.

Have you tried another mapping app? I would test BlackBerry Maps and see what happens.

Using Blackberry Maps "Advanced" option correctly points to the correct place, the coordinates do not change. Unfortunately BB Maps has no satelite feature.

Another option may be Bing. It does satellite view. But I've never tried locating with lat and long.

The latest version Google Maps 4.5.3 also has the same problem, it doesn't locate the exact point using longitude and latitude. This is backward development, this never used to happen. I hope Android doesn't have the same short comings!
