Os: 9700 5.0.0.645/5.0.0.405

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.645

Package Version: 5.0.0.645
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.405
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.112
* File name (Multilanguage): 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel645_PL5.1.0.112_A5.0.0.405_AT_am p_T.exe
* File name (EastAsia): 9700EastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel645_PL5.1.0.112_A5.0.0.40 5_AT_amp_T.exe
* File sizes: 136.52MB and 137.53MB respectively

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...0-0-351-a.html

Any info on changelog, battery life, etc?

TonyTone 12-18-2009 06:38 AM

Is the sms text name/number issue fixed?

TonyTone 12-18-2009 07:02 AM

Looks to me like this is a wrong link. It's for the DM.

Nope, it's AT&T 's download site, you need to pick what you want to download.

I've noticed that for my particular provider the FW does not have the icons for BBMaps (Telus) which is odd because in Options> Applications it shows its installed. IS this normal and defaulted for all providers FWs??

Look for another maps app on your phone. Att does this thing where they hide bbmaps, and put on att navigator instead... You can also just switch themes... I use google maps... Its free, and much easier to use

Thanks. Will Gmaps intergrate (like BBMaps) with BBMv5? I'm getting the idea that BBMaps not being integrated with firmware is not isolated to Telus/Rogers/AT&T as I've tried firmware with all of them and don't see it, even with "Show All" enabled. I can see it installed on Loader.exe or within BBDM, or on the device (via options>applications>Add-Ons), but cannot find the actual app/icon.

If I remember correctly, the SMS issue wasn't fixed until .415. I still think .421 is the best build so far.

NJBlackBerry 12-18-2009 11:06 AM

I agree with McKinney. And .423 is killing my battery.

I was using BB Desktop Manager to install this update and it failed during installation and now my device will not reboot. It is telling me to "Reload Software 507." Awesome.

BBinPhilly 12-18-2009 04:00 PM

2nd attempt was successful. O.S. updated 12/18/09

tintillo 12-18-2009 06:03 PM

Actually, I did the update directly from the Blackberry website. I got an email from RIM indicating that an updated is available. If you go to BlackBerry - Update your Device Software (IE and FIREFOX) you can click on update,which will launch your DM to update your device. In addition, I was told by a RIM tech support person that the best version of DM is 5.0.1

I loaded 405 this morning... then 409 is now out OTA, if you are running AT&T stock OS. It likely updated some radio stack for AT&T, or bug fixes.

frozinwater 12-18-2009 06:18 PM

i want to make sure this fixes the SMS name bug before i download it, does anyone know for sure? thanks in advance.

Why?

TonyTone 12-18-2009 09:32 PM

I downloaded it - no prob (and even though I'm ATT, my BB Maps is still working fine). The problem is ... I don't see any difference from the original OS.

evandt 12-19-2009 01:20 AM

No changes I'm aware of whatsoever. at least ones I see.
