Curve 8520 Screen won't light up properly

I have had my blackberry curve for 13 months, and about a fortnight ago, I spilt a tiny bit of water across the top of the screen, but wiped it off immediately and assumed no damage.
However that evening, after charging the phone, I tried to turn it back on, and the keypad etc lit up, and the red LED light was flashing, as I had messaged, butthe screen would not light up, and I found the only way to see the screen at all, was to find pressure points around the screen which I have to push and hold to enable me to see what is going on.
9 times out of 10, as soon as I let go, it returns to darkness, or a very very dark screen on which I can barely see anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this before I take it to a repair shop?

It may be too late. But, remove the battery now, and read the article at blackberryfaq.com on what to do if you get your blackberry wet.

Sounds like water get inside the device through an interface. Or it could be damage from or failure for other reasons. But you need to act now on the assumption the problem is water.

Thankyou! I checked out the blackberry FAQ site & the water indicator suggests it has not been damaged by the water. I managed to get it to stay on its proper, full lighting and use it earlier, but a little knock and it was out again!
And other suggestions?

It may be physical breakage, but FYI it does not take a lot of moisture to cause problems, and in this regard negative indicators are not proof of no moisture exposure.
