IT security overbearing...
 

I need help accessing my own phone. My IT department implemented new security policies today...specifically requiring the use of a password set to just 20 minutes idle time. Blackberry supports up to an hour, which I think is more reasonable. However, the IT dept. locked the password and idle time settings.

How do I get around the locks and modify the settings???

Hi -

I think you will generally get an answer like this one:

"Circumventing IT Policies - even on your own phone - could lead to your dismissal".

It's their BES, their network and their policies. You can't get around the locks. Unless you have them remove the IT Policy and remove you from the BES. Sorry...

I am an owner of the company. So, technically that makes it MY BES. I appreciate and respect your response. I don't want to remove the IT policy, I simply want to change the idle time back to 1 hour. I don't think that's unreasonable.

However, hypothetically...if one were to remove the it policy from the phone after it has been implemented on the BES, does that result in the device losing communication with the BES?

Have your BES admin adjust the settings in your IT Policy and re-send the policy to your handheld. 60 minutes is the maximum for this setting.


Yes. Removing the IT Policy will break the BES connection and the device will need to have a new Enterprise Activation run to restore the connection. (At which time, the IT Policy will be put back in place.)

Sorry - didn't realize it was your company! Damn over zealous BES Admins. Tell them to create a new IT Policy for you with a 60 minute timeout.

Honest mistake.....If IT department works for the OP, then why here asking how to "get around the locks and modify the settings."

IT Security Frustration...please help
I have been forced to use Password security starting today. I had previously set the delay to 1 hour, the longest setting allowed for idle time before the password kicks in. However, this morning when the BES provisioned the new security protocols onto my phone (against my will)...it set the idle time to 20 minutes and locked it.

The basic password setting is also locked.

Is there any way to hack into, I mean "access," my own phone and change this?
