No such version for ANY model! There's 4.2.1.79 for the 8800 from AT&T, but the AT&T 8100 is currently on 4.2.1.96. Get it from here:

It was released in Europe before the US.
O2 UK, Orange UK, Telefonica (Spain), TIM (Italy), Bouygues Telecom (France) all have the device.

I believe the first US carrier to launch the 8120 is Suncom (T-Mobile), although it may not have officially released in the US yet. Q108?

Good catch!

Explanation:
The script gleans model info from this page:
BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
However, the 8820, 8120, and 8130 are not listed there. When I wrote the script I was able to set it add the 8820 and 8130 to the list of models to check for, but the 8120 had no providers and having it in the list was causing errors.

Now that there are providers for that model, I've added them to the list of models to check for.

O2 does not use BlackBerry to host their files, and TIM and Bouygues are not listed in the Providers page. The notes will be updated to be more clear on that issue.

skamania 01-26-2008 02:53 PM

this might have been asked before but i have a basic question. i have a verizon pearl, will the alltel OS update work properly? is this a problem for verizon or alltel or me? thanks

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 02:56 PM

Yes, the Alltel code will work on Verizon. All handheld code is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers on their own schedules.

Follow the instructions posted on Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ.com and you are good to go.

skamania 01-26-2008 03:01 PM

when im asked to verify that i am an alltel customer, does that not go anywhere? or is that jsut for RIM?

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 03:02 PM

Just a question.
You are the first person in recorded history to actually READ the EULA :-)

skamania 01-26-2008 03:07 PM

sorry just a lil type A and anal. so your saying go for it.

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 03:17 PM

If you want to, go for it.
Just because others are doing it doesn't mean it is right for you.

ChainsawDude 05-08-2008 08:00 AM

FYI the 8110 is missing from the list.

actually that was a statement, not a question.

I did wonder about that the first time I downloaded an OS from another carrier. However, it's been 3 years and nobody's come knocking on my door.

Sith_Apprentice 05-11-2008 07:57 PM

strictly speaking yes, you are *supposed* to be a customer of that carrier, in order to download that OS.

Hi guys

i would like to know if i download a firmware from other carrier for 8707 model, will that affect the whole device? or i should delete the vendor.xml file before proceed to upgrade firwmare ?

using CSL carrier, but problem is it dont have the firmware for 8707 model.

can 8707g or 8707v firmware compatible with 8707 model ?

also, i would like to know if i download a firmware with CJK language, is that mean after upgrade the firmware, the whole device only shows in chinese or just showing chinese during upgrading process via desktop manager?

Quick Question,
I have 8300 from AT&T, is it completely safe to download and install
# 8300 - 4.5.0.37 from Singapore and StarHub? I mean, will I lose any functionality, since these are specifically designed for that particular provider.

John Clark 07-08-2008 11:40 AM

Yes, it's safe to do.
