BIS and BES security
From the official doc of Blackberry, between BIS and and the blackberry device are not encrypted (other than wireless network security). I also hear or see possiblities of this is encrypted in the GME protocol. Is this operator dependent? Thats some operators ask encryption between BIS and the BB device and some dont. Irrespective encryption or not, can I tell at least what service (e.g. email, BBM, web etc) a particular PIN or MSISDN that is accessing, although the content is encrypted?
We know BES and BB device communication is encrypted. Since it is mediated by RIM NOC and the concept of service book and SPR ID, does this mean that from the Gp interface at wireless network, I can tell at least what service (e.g. email, BBM, web etc) a particular PIN or MSISDN that is accessing, although the content is encrypted? Thx for the help |
Re: BIS and BES security
I also hear that BIS and BB communication are not encrypted but scrambled maybe, e.g. SHA hashed. Whats the truth? Irrespective, can I tell what service a PIN is accessing?

Re: BIS and BES security
Another thing, I saw a posting that PIN cannot be duplicated. I dont get it. Why cannt I use someone else's pin to talk thru RIM NOC to that person's BES server? Although I wont be able to read the content because I dont have the right master key, but at least could I direct the data to me?

Re: BIS and BES security
What goal are you trying to achieve with the questions? Kinda sounds like you are attempting to hack something. Forgive me if I'm incorrect.

Re: BIS and BES security
We are trying to define some policy charging in operator networks based on different type of blackberry services the roamer is using. For example, email is allowed but web is not when his bill reaches a certain threshold, to avoid bill shock for the roamer

Re: BIS and BES security
I thought it is just a simple yes or no question for people know about it. My RIM architect friend is on vacation. I just need a quick answer. Anyone?
