Nokia N9

The new Nokia N9 is now available, and it looks like an iPhone beater. There are countless video reviews on YouTube, but I wonder if anyone here took a good look at one of these devices. Let us know the scoop on this new device, and if it is worth the $800 or so dollars.

Their one and only Meego phone is an iPhone killer? Ok....

MeeGo is being rolled into a new version of Linux and will cease to be knows as MeeGo. Development will shift away from MeeGo-specific apps as well. This should complicate the process of getting apps for the N9. Anytime they promise to "make the transition easy" I think "uh-oh".

And Nokia is totally devoted to their new best friend OS - Windows Phone 7. Should make this one shot deal phone interesting. Not sure it will kill anything.

It might commit suicide and kill itself. On the other hand maybe Windows Phone 7 and Meego will mate and produce another unloved off spring. Maybe it could be called the Meego Poo 2. ;-)

Sounds like another crappy phone OS.

It has "Palm Pre" written all over it. Elop at Nokia has whored himself to Microsoft for that $1 Billion investment they promised. I'm sure a condition was that Nokia go "all in" on WP7x and kick dirt on everything else. Elop said "he was over MeeGo" before the N9 ever saw the light of day.

So Samsung and Microsoft are going to make poo together. Somehow or another that make sense.

Come on, guys, let's not bash on the device. What are the assets and liabilities of the device? Does anyone here have one?

Your opening post "looks like an iPhone beater" was an open invitation to ridicule a new phone using an already orphaned OS from a company that is shifting to become more Microsoft centric.

This one is worth bashing. The OS fiasco alone disqualifies it from any serious consideration. Maybe I'd take a chance on one if it was under $100, but with all the questions surrounding it's future at $800 it's a total non-starter.

Until there are some hands-on reviews from actual users there isn't anything to discuss. How is battery life in real use situations? Hows email on it? What about the browser? So far we've only read blog posts, and even those professional reviewers didn't get to actually use it.

I agree this horse appears to be dead before the race started as there are too many things against it. Hell, even Lunkhead ignored the thread.
