VeriChat for BlackBerry

I just found a new chat program for BB called VeriChat. I've used it for an hour or so, and I can say that they've done a very nice job for a version 1. The interface is attractive and is much easier to configure than WebMessenger. Also, it has its own audio profiles for foreground/background and in/out of holster. Very cool!

VeriChat for Blackberry
We are pleased to announce v1.00b of VeriChat for Blackberry. VeriChat gives you always-on access to MSN, Yahoo!, AIM and ICQ. It works on all Java-based handhelds including the 7100.

You will need to have MDS enabled on your BES server, or a Nextel or Verizon BBY.

A free trial is available at www.pdaapps.com

I was a big VeriChat user when I had my palm-based phones (Samsung i330 and i500). It's a great app. Too bad they can't make it work for non-BES users.

It rebooted my black berry 7280 :(

well, the providers will be able to offer this network compatibility soon enough.

it works fine for me, although it locked up when i tried to log off AIM (due to my buddy list being over 100 contacts). i have removed about 40 people from my buddy list, so maybe once AOL's servers have updated the server copy of my list, it won't lock up my BB. i do not like that it pulls my entire buddy list rather than just the mobile device group.

on another 7100 we have, it will not login. it pulls up the PDAapps status screen and then immediately switches back to the Protocol login screen.

*edit: my stupidity. i'm the only person on our BES with MDS enabled, so thats why :D

So you got it working on your 7100? I'm not having any luck...

It's very new, so they are still working out the bugs. It will take time!

The Verichat people actually linked to my MDS FAQ on this BlackBerryForums site. Nice!

Might try it out soon. I would install Verichat, but I am a paid WebMessenger user, and have already paid for some expensive BlackBerry software. So it might be a while before I decide to test/review the Verichat software...

Mark, my boss LOVES VeriChat...

...and considering WebMessenger's homepage has been down for 2 days now, it must be a sign to switch... ;)

I could! But I am going to wait until my WebMessenger subscription to run out first, or that I get a free reviewer's copy. It does look interesting.

I abandoned my WebMessenger subscription. Doesn't seem like it would cost you anything to try the trial... ;)

If they have a trial, good point. Will give it a test when I have time;

I'm not having alot of luck with these BB instant messenging programs. Webmessenger tells me that my AIM name and password are invalid (though the same name and pw work with AOL's AIM desktop client and with Verichat). Verichat is nice but its slow on my 7230. Takes a few minutes for the buddylist to load and then its inaccurate (says people are online after they have signed off)

for everyone, they have just updated to 1.09b on their webpage, so go update :)
