BB 9900 upgrade to 7.1 giving brain haemorrhage
 

Ok, so I have an officially listed 7.1 update from BB India for my Bold 9900.

I have wasted ALL of today trying to update. I think I am going to buy an iPhone now.

I tried updating from my Mac OSX Lion and BB Desktop Software. It kept hanging at 'backing up social feeds' for 5 tries. I had logged out of ALL social feeds.

I now tried updating from a Windows XP machine. The update process kept hanging at 'backing up sms database'. This is my 4th attempt on windows.

After every attempt I have to take the battery out of the g-d-d phone, else it doesnt connect to BB Desktop (my computer OS and BB Desktop, need less to mention, are absolutely uptodate with whats available).

ALL I wanted , was to be able to use my BB as a mobile hotspot. Something which is simply available with Windows, Android and iPhone. One sholdnt be punished to THIS extent for using a BB.

Any suggestions? I know a lot of suggestions like 'hard reset, retry' types will come along. Keep them coming...

Watch the language, and do an advanced backup and skip social feeds.

thanks for the reply. apologies for the profanities and delayed response. I cant find any 'advanced backup option'. Will keep trying. Wll post back if successful.

So I found some advice somewhere to delete the 'Social Feeds' app and retry. I deleted. Now the BB Desktop Manager doesnt show the OS 7.1 update as available any more!

Finally I managed to get the 7.1 installed. After umpteen hard reboots!
I can finally use my BB 9900 as a WiFi HotSpot!
