Latest OS: 8300 4.5.0.174/4.5.0.124 (English & East Asian)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.174 (EastAsia)
Contains English; from Indosat
This will load to any carrier's 8300

Package Version: 4.5.0.174
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.124
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.92
  • File name: 8300EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel174_PL2.7.0.92_A4.5.0.124 _Indosat.exe
  • File size: 86.01MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B53786A2C5FA09

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Any difference between this and the previous ones? Has something improved for us to upgrade?

ssb16 01-29-2009 10:28 AM

After having read the 8310 and 8320 forums on the software, I decided to take the plunge last night with the new software. The reason was due to memory leaks the past month. I've had to reset my device several times due to the leak.

Installation went smoothly. I don't have a lot of software on the device thus for me it was done within 30 mins. The backup went smoothly and everything transitioned well.

I cannot stress the importance of following the instructions as posted above.

So far

- Phone service improved (very important for me)
- Memory has improved
- All programs opening quicker
- Sound is fine on the speaker

Thanks for finding this upgrade.

I upgraded to this also about 2 weeks ago and haven't had any problems with it at all. My speaker volume doesn't appear to have been affected either. Thank you for putting it up... (y)

i upgraded. i'm seeing a couple of issues.

1) can't assign custom ring tones. the upgrade erases the exceptions to the profiles. i'm able to select a contact. edit the contact. select add custom ring tone. but nothing comes up.
2) all tones are gone. not sure what happened here but all the blackberry tones are gone. what .cod file are these in?

i executed the memory saving procedure that someone posted a while back. so i remove some of the .cod files out of the java directory.

flipnfreak 02-03-2009 02:53 PM

i also have an issue.......i did a upgrade on my moms 8300 with this new os and the camera app doesnt work. its says something like too many apps are open. I pulled the battery and still does it...... should i redo the update? or just down grade it?

ssb16 02-04-2009 01:16 PM

To be honest guys mine works perfectly fine.

I did not do anything different. I made sure that all my stuff was backed up properly. I didn't worry about the 3rd party applications as those can be installed again.

Something you might want to do is a complete wipe of your device and then restore.

Smooth upgrade on my Blackberry 8300 Curve...

Took about 1 hour and no problems occurred during installation or post-installation. This is a backup unit so it does not get much use, will report if I find any issues.

mkd284 04-13-2009 12:11 PM

Been using this OS for the last few days and no issues at all. Phone runs smoothly

JoeRo 04-30-2009 06:00 PM

I too had a simple upgrade experience, and install went smoothly. Needed a few restarts but it finally finished.

Today I added Green Finder, a golfer's GPS app, and it has a little problem. The "close" function fails to take me out of the app. Their tech guy says it might have to do with a beta version of the upgraded software (V4.5.0.174/124) Is this a beta?
