Not to nitpick but....

Anyone else notice that the USB cable is much much shorter than any of the previous one (Pearl, old Curve, Bold, 88XX, etc were all the same)? It's shorter by quite a bit, like a foot. It's a little annoying now because on one of my computers I don't have a USB plug in the front, so I have to plug it to the back of the computer, and it reaches to the front fine, but if say a call comes in, you can't really answer it comfortably as the cable doesn't reach.

Surely they weren't trying to save money on this? That would be a tad ridiculous. Not sure why else they did it though..

Great phone otherwise though, I still think they Bold's keyboard is nicer to type on though. But it's just so sexy, form factor is amazing and I love the lock button which doesn't even seem like a button is very sleek.

I lost my Bold, I'm using a 8800 in the meantime but I want to pick up a Bold or a 8900 in a month and I can't decide which now..

Haha, hope you're not making your decision based on the cable length of the usb cable. Yeah I've noticed it to be shorter; connection seems a lot firmer too. I also don't like the location of the connector either. Makes using the device while connected hard as well. Still, I prefer it over any other BB used so far (Curve/pearl/kickstart/bold/and a retro old one that I dont even remember the model number for lol).

Yeah I agree with both of you. I hate the length of the cable as well as the placement of the charging port. Actually I hate this charging port all together.

Why did RIM go with the micro USB for the 8900? If I go with the 8900, then I am going to have to buy new car and wall chargers. Stinks!

Haven't you guys heard the myth, size doesn't matter.

Haha GT =P.

The only reason other than "The Micro-USB connections are intended to replace the Mini-USB plugs used in new devices including smartphones and Personal digital assistants." from wiki I can think of is, so that RIM can make more money off accessories that have to be bought to replace the old connector accessories.

Several handset makers have made an alliance recently to make microUSB the industry standard port. Theirs a cnet or yahoo article bout it.

There making phones much smaller these days, and the Bold is supposedly the last RIM device to come with a standard USB port. I'd advise everyone to get used to seeing Micro USB's on all future berry's down the road!

Mini -> Micro converters can be found for a reasonable price.
