BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

Just switched from a much loved Blackberry 9780 to a Windows Phone and here are my first impressions for your purchasing inquiries:

- first thought: touch screen keyboards truly are absolutly a heaping pile !!! I'm talking Biff Tannen heaping pile !!! Getting used to it and it might be better in the long run, but 1st impression is le shit.
- finger print city and smears everywhere
- get this, you can't use the phone as a memory stick (on a Windows Phone of all devices), only for pics, riddims and pics
- can only tether with wi-fi and not usb which is a huge bottleneck
- fast (browsing, everything else) as the Delorean right before it jumps the space-time continuum buy not sure if a newer Blackberry would match it or not
- music don't seem to be able to random by album or genre, just all or nada
- screen size is very nice but not sure if newer Blackbery matches
- haven't really tested apps yet
- copy and pasting is difficult
- not sure how much my bandwidth bill will jump, but the browsing pics are much better without Blackbery server compresion making pics grainy
- love the home screen and Microsoft's 1st go at tiles
- locking/unlocking takes 2 moves, a button press and a swipe
- security is the same since the technique I use is called "put it back in your pocket after use"
- looking toward to finding out what kinda games this thing can provide, only other portable that might be able to compete is Nintendo's but thiers ain't a phone, microsoft has rare (donkey Kong country, killer instinct, goldeneye, perfect dark) and remedy (max Payne) and more
- email is nice, miss push a lot but with tiles and pop3, WinPhone's email is nice, not sure how good (if it can) send native html email, email is nice though, good and bad when compared to push, guess it depends on your personal email habits
- with tiles and pop3, winPhone email is nice and only 2 button presses, pushEmail is great but sometimes that blinking read light of push nags instead of serves
- needing 2 hands to browse is tough for me as I can't articulate myself without cursing, smoker, coffee, bus poles, pizzas, bye bye
- can't set mp3 as alarm clock
- can't put browsing bookmarks into folders or organize (all alphebetical)

Day 1 Conclusion:
- because of backend thing specific to my field, still love the Windows Phone and look forward to what Microsoft bring with Win8, but for standard "enterprise suits" or heavy typers and browsers, do not know if I would recommend a WinPhone over a newer Blackberryc
- have not extensively tried an iPhone, newer Blackbery or any touchscreen phone
- a slide out keyboard would be nice

Re: BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

some more things I wish I knew before buying:

- navigating between the home screen and programs is won by WinPhone easy (at least on the homes teen tiles) as opposed to holding down a Blackberry menu button with only 5 icons on the home screen
- little thing like BB going to clock on plugging in is missed
- when typing in passwords, someone looking over your shoulder will be able to see your password because there's lag before the letter turns into *****'s

Re: BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

1 week in:

- def getting used to touch screen keyboard
- touch screen while lying down is frustration because the screen keeps flipping around
- winPhone not as loud with headPhones but prob depends on model
- connecting to Zune to sync def faster tons
- no desktop manager needed to tether, makes it a million time faster, just 1 time setup for phone to approve desktop's password
- winPhone browser will just not open pop-up, good in most cases, but disrupts some sites like links that open in new windows/tabs
- can open new tabs by holding down links, user can but site can't decide to open new tab/window

Would be nice to know which Windows phone you have and your cell carrier.

In all honesty, would be nice to give that info but can't due to a simple but complex mess of non-disclosure type of things.

Re: BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

Sorry if this thread gets messy, but it's the little things that count.
- kittens have 9 lives, no worries

- the winPhone tiles is excellent, and win8 is supposed to be even better!!!
--- even pic subFolders can be filed to the homescreen
--- this is only compared to BB9780 and one earlier BB

- calendar reminders are right on the homescreen
- but, unfortunately the clock is small tiny print everywhere as opposed to full screen clock when BB is put on hold

- with Zune (winPhones desktop manager), it comes with this excellent video converter where you can cut and mix videos for transfer to the phone
- winPhone videos can also be categorized

- battery life seems about the same with 1 week in

You have a WIndows Phone 7 and it is on a non disclosure?

It's not like WP7 isn't already out there, is it.

I have a Nokia Lumia 710 on T-Mobile USA. Isn't that easy?

It's complicated and simple at the same time

Something like

"we do not comment on rumours or speculation"

Or

"read a FAQ and do a search before asking a question"

Or

"please" and "thank you"

And "that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever".
Must be along those lines.

Re: BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

no reason need be given as polite as it is to do so.

but anyways

- on this winPhone7, can't hold the volume buttons to ff/rew the music player
--- have to pressbutton to wake phone then hit ff/rew which does show on the sleep mode screen which us very cognitively planned
- just noticed don't have to type alt+key, alt+key, alt+key to type 3 dashes, dont know about BB touchscreen keyboard
- can also capsLock easy on winPhone7 which is good

Re: BB 9780 to WinPhone - day 1

- can't ff/rew music to parts in riddim, only next track or prev track
- as will unable to use this winPhone as a memory stick (except vids, pics and music), can't upload pics to web when say ... there's an upload button on uploading a forum avatar or some ish
- can't or hard to edit typos in middle of a word
