OS: 8300 4.5.0.52/4.5.0.37 (East Asia)

4.5 has been release for 8300

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.52(EastAsia) (Includes English)

Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8300EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37_S tarHub.exe
* File size: 75.6MB

Download here.

To install this software on any 8300:

1. Download and install the latest Desktop Manager. Click here.
2. Download and install the OS packaged linked above.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Connect BB, open Desktop Manager and you should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

(Link to previous 4.2.2.194 OS Click Here.)

This particular version was known to damage sim cards on some TMobile devices requiring the sim to be replaced during beta testing. TMobile users load at your own risk.

*Note: Also, on all devices it's a good idea to make a backup of your media card before loading OS 4.5. Constant reboots can occur when using media cards formatted in OS 4.2 or 4.3 in OS 4.5. Then reformat the media card in OS 4.5 and restore your data.

*Note: While in Application Loader be sure and check to boxes to add Documents To Go to your device. Failure to install Documents To Go will cause java errors in some 3rd party apps.

Is the East Asia version the same as Sri Lanka? Is this safe for TMO users? Any advantages of installing this version, or is this still a beta. Thanks.

John Clark 07-05-2008 12:19 PM

1. This is for the 8300 not the 8320.
2. Version is the same except for maybe included languages.
3. There is a note above for TMo users.
4. Since it's released by a carrier, it's not technically a beta anymore.

4.5.0.37 is 4.5.0.37 regardless of the carrier it's released by. The only differences are the languages they include for their countries.

(Dialog Sri Lanka doesn't have the 8300 so they don't have an OS for the 8300.)

FINALLY!! I'll get started on this one right away. Thanks everyone for keeping on top of this.

iLukeBerry 07-05-2008 01:00 PM

i have installed it on my 8300 and it works great! :D

BTW i selected "BlackBerry 8300 (TM)" in that pulldown menu. NOT "BlackBerry Curve 8300 (TM)"

4.5 is really cool but i didn't like default font size in BB dimension Zen theme it was too big, so i changed it to size 8 and now it's perfect! :)

should I go back

If this version is application 4.5.0.37 and I am using application 4.5.0.42 (beta) am I going backwards or is the official release version more stable?

Thanks

John Clark 07-05-2008 03:07 PM

Yes, you'd be going backwards.

corrado85 07-05-2008 10:04 PM

what are the major difference you have noticed upgrading from 4.2?

John Clark 07-05-2008 10:09 PM

Please search through the Beta You Than Me forum for TONS of info on your question.

my phone restarted after installing applications.. and now its stuck on the white blank loading screen for ~10mins

i took out the battery and now its been 5mins and it still is stuck on the white screen

does it take this long or is something gone wrong?

John Clark 07-06-2008 12:02 AM

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

It can take 20-30 mins to reboot after loading the OS. Don't remove the battery. Just be patient.

THIS is GREAT so far!!!! Makes me even more like pavlov's dog for the Bold!!!!

Everything looks and feels great with this OS. Love the voicenote and the video recording! The email and cal. look so clean and bold too, very nice.

Anyone having an issue with their jivetalk application working?

Mine will not open at all, it just keeps scrolling with the round green, red and yellow signals.

Great OS though, first bug I've noticed thus far.

John - I guess it's safe to assume the even though this is an official .37 release, it will still have the same MWI issue with T-Mobile? (i.e., official or not, .37 is still simply .37)?

to update: once i removed the battery and try again as i mentioned before. it took me 10mins then yes, you were right, it displayed the BB screen. Very smooth. although i had problem last nite connecting to the internet. today its working like a charm.

and i use it on tmobile-usa as well.

@corrado -

Using this version with T-Mobile on an 8300? Does the message waiting indicator work for you now? (I'm guessing no, since this is still .37, even though "official" now).

I haven't been able to find this anywhere in the FAQ but if I upgrade the OS, I'm assuming I will also need to re-install all my apps and info? Or will this simply upgrade my existing OS and keep my data and settings intact?

John Clark 07-07-2008 12:28 AM

Everything will be backed up and restored. However, if there is any glitch during the load and the device has to be wiped and the OS loaded fresh, you will lose your 3rd party apps. I suggest following the instructions below before upgrading your OS:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...arty-apps.html

If the load goes ok, then there is no need for the backup. However, if something goes wrong or you need to wipe the device you can easily reload all the apps using this backup.
