Unlocking the storm

I bought a storm today. I'm a Altell customer. I called Verizon to ask for the unlock code. They told me I had to be a Verizon customer to unlock the phone. How are people getting the unlock codes? What is the best way to do this?

JSanders 04-22-2009 10:10 PM

Verizon was correct.

Contact Horizon Wireless in my signature to purchase an unlock code from very reputable people.

You don't need to unlock the phone to use it on Alltel.

dc/dc is correct also.

lol

I went to Horizon and it 25.49 us dollar. I read only one review. I may use the phone on AT&T as well.

You've not searched hard enough. Horizon is a sponsor of this forum and HIGHLY respected.

If you wish to use the device on at&t as well as Alltel, you will need to unlock it.

If you unlock the Verizon Storm, and put in a T-Mobile SIM chip, how does the phone know whether to use CDMA of Verizon or GSM of Tmo? Is there a setting that has to be changed to force it to use only the Tmo SIM chip?

The phone should be set to GSM Only in Mobile Network Options, but it doesn't have to be. If you're using T-Mobile GSM, you're obviously not a Verizon subscriber, so the phone can't register on Verizon CDMA.

Actually, I do have Verizon. I'm considering unlocking it.

If I unlock it, and put a Tmo sim chip in, would I receive calls from both my Verizon and T-Mo numbers? I wouldn't think that was likely. But I am wondering how the phone would "know" which number to use if I did not change the setting in "Mobile Network Options", since you suggested it did not have to be changed.

I unlocked it for $9.00. I really dont understand how all these webs sites have the unlock code from the carriers. Anyhow on my way to put the unit on AT&T.

peteyspambucket 04-23-2009 05:44 PM

Where did you get the unlock for that price? (PM me if you want.)

No, you will not receive calls on both numbers.

If you set the device to GSM only, you will use your T-Mobile service. If you leave it on CDMA or World, it will use Verizon.
