OS: 9650 6.0.0.1659/6.0.0.415 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9650 smartphoneThis will install to any carrier's 9650 by following the instructions below:
BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1659 (Multilangauge)

Package Version: 6.0.0.1659
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 6.0.0.415
  • Software Platform: 4.4.0.314
  • File name: 9650_512AMEA_PBr6.0.0_rel1659_PL4.4.0.314_A6.0.0.4 15_Sprint_L.P.exe
  • File size: 157.26MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Sprint has released an additional Japanese language pack also at this link.
Download the OS file here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9650:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Downloading now. I've been quite happy with .333, but I've had two random resets happen since installing it a while ago.

ETA: still doesn't have all the old ringtones. Reinstalled the ones from my 9630 via BBSAK.

You had random resets with the .333?? Or with the new .415?? Just wondering cause the .333 has been completely stable for me in my Verizon 9650.

The resets were on .333, although I now believe it may have been the "Berry Annoying" silent-camera app rather than the OS being the culprit. Looking back, I realized that both resets happened just after I used the camera to snap a pic. Maybe that's why they (JaredCo) say it won't work with CDMA phones. 99% of the time it works fine, but every now and then...snap a pic, and RESET!

I had the ramdom re-boots on .222, I posted looking for others in another thread... I thought I had traced it back to SMS in some way, because that was the only time it would happen. This new .415 seems decent so far..

Anyone know if VZ PTT will work on .415? it would not work on .333 and I had to down grade to .280 which i have found is very stable.

I am running this and no PTT.

Is anyone a user of the Audible.com app for audio books and if you are, do you have it working on a 9650 with OS 6???

I randomly had this behavior in .333 as well. Only taken 2 pics on this build. OK so far. AND I did not have the silence app installed.

Hmmm...good to know. My wife is running that silent app on her Tour without issue. (I know, different OS & phone, but still....) Gonna randomly take lots of photos tomorrow and see what happens.

Random reboots still happening in this latest build. Also, now I can't delete certain SMS text messages... I'll get the green icon like I'm saving a draft. Nothing works but a battery pull... Annoying.

I like the upgrade for the most part, but wow, I have to say I don't like the look of the new calendar.

I loaded 6.0.0.415 a week ago.

Like the new UI, except can't navigate between days on the calendar.

Battery life is less than 24 hours!

Response time seems slow compared to 5.0, but I guess that's cause this is one of the slowest processors it's released on.

Not sure if I'm going to stay here or roll back.

I like almost everything about OS6 UI-related. I do think its slick and new... although, this latest build def has it's issues. I cannot believe this was "officially" released by any carrier or RIM, for that matter. Here are my issues so far, others chime in please:

-no "scrolling" between days on calender
-random reboots (no idea why)
-inability to delete from message list (not just SMS messages now, but emails as well)
-battery life (although mine has always sucked, I always keep a spare battery and charger near-by) not sure OS6 related.

downloaded it OTA but am now quickly rolling back because I simply can't exist without a Today Plus theme, sad to say but I rely so heavily on being able to take one glance at my phone during a meeting and immediately see the newest messages and upcoming meetings. I pray that someone creates a Today Plus OS 6 theme soon but until them I am staying away!

Agreed. I'll stick with this version, but I really don't like the theme. I'll be looking forward to some new themes.

I am not experiencing the problems previously mentioned. My biggest complaint--and maybe its a user issue-- is that i cannot find the option that allows me to dial from the home screen as in previous versions. its a pain to have to go to the telephone to dial

You mean just press the numbers followed by the phone button? Mine can... When you press the numbers, the search screen will come out. But there is a small row that displays the number pressed and allow you to dial straight, from home screen.

Installed this last night. So far it appears to be a lot quicker going in between menus. It's really "snappy". It used to take a few seconds to load an email, but it jumps right into it now.

Noticed on Verizon, if you have the MyVerizon installed you also get an 'app' that shows your current data usage.

Can't wait til themes start being made for this OS.

Installed last Monday.

The most important issues are:

- Calendar: cannot scroll to next day
- Calendar: cannot see the entire day, only a portion
- All my past entries in the Calendar were transferred to the Facebook Calendar and disappeared in my Outlook files

Ericx: That is how it used to work for me....but with this new version when i press the #s and the phone, I get the phone log..... Perhaps there is an option that I haven't found yet to allow dialing from the home screen. (past versions had this option)

Actually what I meant is I am on .415 version, and it works for me. So there must be a way, likely just a setting problem like what you said.

I upgraded from .222 last night and I must say that it's a big improvement. I downgraded back to 5.0.0.975 because .222 was too laggy and had some bugs I found but this build is perfectly okay.

Also, hate that the contact app doesn't let you turn off pictures so more contacts fit on the screen. Anyone know how to turn that off?

I plugged my Bold in to synchronize it this morning and it told me it was time to go to 6. So I let it. Nice job RIM - I think I really like the update. I also think it's more stable. The Facebook app was crashing 5 consistently - so far today it's running solid. Nice changes ... really gives it a fresh look. OS/5 was looking a little old.

Re: Latest OS: 9650 6.0.0.1659/6.0.0.415 (Multilanguage)

I took the plunge last night and gave up my superbly tuned OS 5.0.0.699 for OS 6.0.0.415. What motivated me was my lust for the upcoming Bold Touch. I figure I should be familiar with the new OS by the time Sprint gets the 9930. I've also been fielding a lot of user questions on OS 6. Time to dive in.

It's smooth and snappy, and battery life seems equal to or better than OS 5.
Not a fan of the calendar. Although it finally blocks out the entire appointment rather than displaying a single block with a line down the time axis, the entire calendar got smaller! Seems if you're going to take away available display space, this is where you might want the old-style appointment blocking. But what do I know?

Not a fan of the tray. From the home screen you used to simply hit the Menu key. Now the Menu key brings out - wait for it - a menu. From that menu the user selects "open tray" and gets the screen with all the icons. Extra step, and totally pointless IMHO.

I appears to me that RIM "Disney'ed up" the look of the BlackBerry OS. Clearly OS 6 was designed with the Torch in mind. My 9650 screen is a bit cramped and crowded now. Maybe a theme would alleviate some of this cramped feeling. It's particularly egregious on the home screen which is where a theme does the most good. Maybe it's just that I'm such a luddite. I pine for the days of the scroll wheel on the side of my 7105t. Ah, simpler times!

Do a fast swipe downward on the trackpad and the tray will open up. No need to press the Menu key. ;-)

More bothersome items:

Caller ID pics are to tiny! They're the size of an MicroSD memory card. Maybe they're bigger on the Torch with it's bigger screen, but on my 9650 I'd prefer to simply turn them off completely.

Viigo isn't supported (yet) on OS 6 on the Bold. It's not RIM's problem, it's Viigo's. But the fact remains that I lost the use of this app when I upgraded my OS. No matter who's fault it is, it still sucks.

It is RIM's problem. They bought Viigo in March 2010: RIM Acquires BlackBerry-App Maker Viigo.

I was a Viigo user, but now that I am on OS6, I use Blackberry News Feeds.

Looks like it's BlackBerry News Feeds for me too. I'm certainly not in love with OS 6 and coiuld downgrade easily enough, but OS 6 is the future. Might as well get on board.

I HATE change. I still pine for my old 7105t and thumb scroll wheel on the side.

BlackBerry News Feeds is awesome! I was a HUGE fan of Viigo, but BBNF is making me forget all about it. I particularly like the unified feed list rather than Viigo's method of breaking down your feeds by category.

I get my financial news feeds, tech blogs, and even TMZ.com for my fix of gossip. Yup - I just have to know what's up with the Jersey Shore crew. It's like a train wreck: you want to look away but you just can't.

I'm still on .415 and I have no Google Calendar sync. I have the options for it, and it was working fine under OS 5, but under this version of OS 6 it does't work. Was this a known or common issue? And if so, did later versions fix it?
