Treo vs. Blackberry

I know very little about the treo but it seems that they are a bit ahead of the bb in certain areas. I was inquiring what the pros and cons were of the treo as it relates to the blackberry.

JSanders 07-02-2008 01:33 PM

What areas does it seem they are ahead in?

Let me pose the question differently
What am I missing by not having a Treo?
What would I lose if I dumped the BB?

JSanders 07-02-2008 01:41 PM

Us.

But then, I don't know your goals.

Dawg 07-02-2008 01:42 PM

youll lose
Push email.
Reliable Security
A reliable OS (non Beta)
Not having to reboot constantly

Its been a while since I carried one but these are the problems I know some of my friends have.

akosnitzky 07-02-2008 01:47 PM

I am not abandoning ship. I have a colleague that is going to try the Treo and I dont know what made it so special.

JSanders 07-02-2008 01:54 PM

BBs don't have that little tit that pokes out at the top corner.

What is that? a Geek flag that says, "HEY, I;m with Stupid!"

Wirelessly posted (8310 AT&T)

My favorite features of my 2 Treos were:
Constantly requiring a soft reset
Keyboard lag

-simpson

/other than that, they were fine

akosnitzky 07-02-2008 02:21 PM

Does the Palm Centro apply to this discussion?

THE ONLY Good thing about the Treo is the threaded SMS.

The treo was extremely slow to respond. There is a definite lag if you try to move at a quick pace between functions. The multiple resets every other hour always seemed to annoy me. I really can't think of one thing where a treo would have an advantage over a BB device.

As a former Treo 700P owner, I can tell you the BB is far superior in just about every way. Poor signal, random reboots and sluggish performance were all feature of the Treo. Not to mention the design is as old and tired as the Palm OS it runs. The Win Mobile models aren't much better since they run WM, which has its own issues.

Treo's are like Ford Pintos...popular in their time, but visibly outclassed in the present.

akosnitzky 07-02-2008 09:51 PM

I had a Palm Pilot before wireless handhelds existed. My only experiences have been with bb's so its good to get a different perspective.

rachamphetamine 07-03-2008 12:13 AM

Palm Pilots are neat. The Treo-s (couldn't tell you the model number to save my life) that my aunt and uncle have... are not. Laggy, easy to crash.. the touch screen is neat for about 3 seconds until you feel like you might put a fingernail/the stylus through your screen. I agree with audit - the only good part was the threaded SMS function.

Dawg said it best. I was about to trade up my T|X for a Treo 755P but I checked out the 8330. The BB deal-closer for me (in addition to the other BB advantages) was being able to import 400+ contacts and appointments from my Palm Desktop to the BB.

Palm does have 1 advantage. They have over 20,000+ software titles available since it is a more mature (old) OS and has been out there a lot longer. It's a tired OS with few updates, many promises (broken) by the Palm CEO, late devices to market, being outclassed by BB, WM and Symbian, and the list goes on and on. Palm is now considered by many to be a 'legacy device', to include their upcoming Treo 800W which STILL does not have the features that the Palm faithful have been demanding for many years.

The Palm folks are tired of being left in the dust and are abandoning Palm for other pastures. I, for one, like it here.

Do they also blow up when you hit them in the tuchis?

ndub33 07-03-2008 12:34 PM

Heh heh...don't know, but I would be willing to try this out, in the interest of scientific research.

MobileDeveloper 07-03-2008 01:20 PM

I slighly prefer Palm more

It has Touch Sensitive screen

Also , it is easier to Program for Palm

Advntages of BB are mainly superficial
