Gmail (Google Mobile App) error in 8800

Hi there.

I am using BB 8800 and I'm a BES member (my carrier is China Mobile).

I have installed the Google Mobile App including Gmail and Google Map and it was performed well before upagrading 8800's ROM to 4.5.0.174.

After upgrading and swiping, I can't open Gmail or Google Map. I have tried many times but what I only could see was the red fonted warning message saying that "this program requires a working data connection. please check your signal strength and connection settings and then restart the application".

I thought that I didn't reinstall this app after upgrading, so I tried to download again but also have failed. It's really strange that even my friends who don't have any data plan can use Gmail or Google Map now. Is there any conflict in 4.5.0.174 with Google Mobile App?

So if you know how to handle this issue, please kindly let me know the way.

Thanks!!

Since you are on BES, it could be the IT Policy blocking it.

Have you reactivated on BES and have you resent your service books? They would have been deleted when you updated the OS.

Thanks Dubdub,

I think the problem is not the BES side. As I'm trying to use this BB 8800 with other numbers (I have few numbers which is not on BES or BIS, but just GPRS data plan), I changed SIM cards to solve this but no luck.

I found out many users suffered with this Gmail app just like me in Google Q&A. The symptom is almost same. "this program requires a working data connection. please check your signal strength and connection settings and then restart the application"

I did everything recommended there but still can't solve this issue.

You need a proper data plan to access maps and gmail.

GPRS does not equal a BLACKBERRY data plan
