Verizon capability.

Hello everyone! I know absolutely nothing about BB's. I have a piece of $hit phone with a verizon contract right now. I am just wondering, in the simplest way...If I buy a used Verizon BB off e-bay will I be able to activate it and use it with no problems?

Short answer: Maybe.
I recommend buying new, especially if it's your first BlackBerry.

I agree! Too many things can go wrong even if you know the right questions to ask.

Several things to think about. You'll need a data plan, an extra cost. Verizon cripples a lot of their phones, not just Blackberries. If you want/need a specific feature that is supposed to be on the berry you choose check with Verizon and make sure they did not cripple it and require another monthly charge. Do not rush into it just to get a berry, you may still be unhappy.

1. Welcome to the site.
2. Please don't post with foul language.
3. You can purchase a phone from eBay and use it, but as noted above, you might be better off getting a new device. If you do purchase a phone from eBay, be 100% sure that it is a Verizon branded device. Be 100% sure that the ESN is clear. Call Verizon to check BEFORE you purchase the device.
4. As noted above, you will be REQUIRED to get a BlackBerry Data Plan if you activate a BlackBerry on the Verizon network.
5. The only real thing that has been "crippled" on Verizon Blackberry devices is the GPS on the 8330. It will only work with BBMaps and VZNav. It will not work with Google Maps or third party applications. On newer devices, there should not be any issues.

Please watch your language. This is a family channel.

Read this before you buy a used BB from anywhere, especially eBay.
