Are There Any Battery Pack Cases For the PRIV?

Silly question, but given the age of my phone, the lack of a PRIV 2 to replace it, and the lack of a user replaceable battery, my PRIV can't go nearly as long on a charge as it used to. Did anyone ever make a battery pack case (Mophie Juice Pack or the equivalent) for the BlackBerry PRIV? I hate having to CONSTANTLY have a way to charge the phone close at hand, and my Quick Charge 2.0 power bank is too large to carry with me everywhere I go. :-?

The pack you have is what is used but if you want to try, there are a few internet videos that show how to replace the battery. There are a few others on the internet. I would watch a few to be sure of how to do it.

The problem with the typical external power bank (I use one from the brand RAVPower that does Quick Charge 2.0) is that it's too large and heavy to carry around in all situations. That's why I'm looking for a Mophie Juice Pack or equivalent that fits on the phone as a CASE:

I also have neither the time, nor the steadiness of hands, to want to mess with replacing the internal battery on my phone.

Ok , Amazon has a few shown that attach like a cell phone case/cover. You might see if any will work for you.

Unfortunately, when I try to narrow the results to show options for the BlackBerry Priv, it gives me no results for that phone. :-(

Just curious, did BlackBerry ever sell one? My sense is if BlackBerry didn't sell one then there isn't one made for the device. And I don't remember seeing one when browsing the BlackBerry store back in the day.

I found limited info on what they fit when it comes to blackberry phones.

While some people are comfortable with buying an OEM replacement battery, cracking their phone open, and replacing it themselves, my hands definitely ARE NOT steady enough and gentle enough to do that sort of thing without causing irreparable damage to my phone.

Jack, did you look into have a phone repair shop put in a new OEM battery?

I admit if I had to find a shop I don't know if I could find one near my home, but maybe. But if you are in a large city in the northeast USA then your chances are better than I would face.

if this looks easy, then you can do it your self

Good post Knotty The battery swap looks easy enough but I think I would toss the phone for a screen replacement

So, I ended up seeing this at Staples last night...

...and just ordered one from Amazon. I already use the Skosch magnetic mount in the car, so I already have one of their mounting plates in my Priv's case, so that makes it perfect... except for only being 2.1 Amp charging. I wish I could find one that does either 2.4 Amp or QuickCharge 2.0 or 3.0, but beggers can't be choosers. This option was hard enough to find to begin with. Once I've tried it out, I'll post again with my thoughts on it.

Not sure what the charge level for the Priv battery is but pushing an over charge on LI battery's can cause an overheat and then in some cases a fire.

I'm not sure what you mean about putting an overcharge. What I linked to is a 4,000 mah Power Bank that attaches magnetically to the Skosche magnetic mounting plate I already have in the case of my phone for use with my dash mount. It's basically a Mophi Juicepack for phones that don't already have a custom-made Juicepack available for them. 8-)

Re: Are There Any Battery Pack Cases For the PRIV?

What I'm saying is to directly charge the battery with a charger over rated for the device. can cause problems. Overcharging a battery causes excessive gassing .On sealed batteries, the buildup of gases could cause the battery to burst. most devices ( like laptops )have a charge limit to prevent problems. when you read about cell phones catching fire I would suspect they do not have the circuitry to limit or shut off the charging
Using a battery pack to supplement the internal battery does not cause overcharging.
It's allowing the phone to draw from another source. Generally the external battery pack gets its charge from an external connection and has a limiter to prevent problems. The units I checked all have protection circuits on them on both the input and output ports.

So, this power bank that attaches to the phone magnetically is here and is working as intended. When I'm going to be away from a wall charger or a larger, better power bank for extended periods of time (such as when I go to the local Renaissance Festival this Saturday) I can slap this on the back and plug it into my phone to add another 4,000 mah to my capacity to get through the day! Obviously, a Mophi Juicepack or the equivalent would be a more elegant solution, but since none of those extended battery cases were ever made for the Priv, this works as a Plan B.

Sounds like a plan...Good Luck.

Not sure vinyl body graphics and emblem overlays are good for a battery pack
