I tried. Really, I tried.
I tried the Z10. Loved the form factor. Fast and lightweight.
But I went back to my Lumia 920 (fast and heavyweight) for a few reasons: - Font sizes; the lock screen and e-mails are so small I can barely read them. Even with my reading glasses on - Apps. Or lack thereof. And not Skype and Netflix. Apps I use. - Poor battery life on LTE. I got about 8 hours today and I barely touched it. - Just some things I got used to. Much easier to delete e-mails on the Lumia (fewer touches).. - Speed Dialing just wasn't happening for me on the Z10. I will keep it around; it works fine on WiFi just no calls and will test it as (if) software updates become available. It has promise. It is a lovely BB, but not right for my needs. |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
You gotta use what works for you. Fair enough.

Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
I still need to get my hands on one to try it out. The one thing I heard along with you a the bad battery life. But I still won't to give it a shot.

Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
Looks like I'll be keeping my 9900 for a while...but it sure is tempting to give the Z10 a go.!
Lets hope BB works some of those kinks out - SOON. I too would love to be able to change the font size on e-mails/text etc. but then, reading glasses are part of my life now..thank god for costco eh.? Is there any word on how BB home interacts with the Z10? |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
No speed dialing? That's not good -- especially without a keyboard.

Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
If you enlarge the system default font, also, the font for email used will be that size. I dont see a problem here.

No. It doesn't work for HTML or RTF emails. Only for old text based e-mails.
It doesn't work. |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
Same problem as with the browser then, you should be able to specify a minimum font size, regardless, what the stylesheet or the mail wants. See my post about this topic.

I posted this on the BlackBerry Support Forum too.

How do you like the 8X?

Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
I've been reading some very different battery life usage. Hopefully it gets sorted out cause it should last at least a day with moderate use.
I remember the battery fiasco with the 9900's at launch and after 2 replacement units, battery life was good enough to get through a busy day. But my touchscreen and touchpad seems to be acting up once in awhile these days. But will probably get one though, when my company upgrades the BES server. |

NJBB- I'm sure you tried but gotta ask anyway. I'm assuming you shut off WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. to see if there was an improvement? I also wonder if screen brightness has something to do with it but you did mention that you barely touched it so probably not. This would be a deal breaker for most if you can't get through a full day on one charge. However, I was reading some comments on another user that said the battery performance was improving on subsequent charges. Comments on Review: BlackBerry Z10 (Phone Scoop) |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
I spent end of last week with the device and I realy like it. I have not so far been a fan of touch screen devices. The poor battery life and i find the keyboards difficult to type on. I got hit realy badly with a overpriced contract for a realy bad samsung phone many years ago and has contributed to me not getting a touch screen device.
In saying that if i could afford the z10 i would swap it for my 8520. I would just have to get used to charging it every day like all other touch screens. I realy like the hub feature and the flick gestures seems so natural for me. I even started doing it on my 8520, stupid. As i have never been a smart phone user and just a blackberry user over the last few years. I don't realy have any problems with the device apart from a few set up problems that i had. But i think they were due to the sim card and the active sync issue. The only app that was missing was whatsapp and i don't even think i will need opera mini as i like the built in browser. The only other thing i am not too sure on is a few usability issues but i think they may just be because i am knew to the device. But it does everything without problem, pdf, office docs, music player, media player, games, flash. I can even play my flac collection. The keyboard is also definitely very usable, i can type like my usual two thumbs and it works fine. Overall i would give it 9/10 and if i could afford it i would replace my 8520, i just can't wait until devices like this have a battery life like my 8520. :D |

You still like the Lumia? Only thing I wish you could do with that phone is swap batteries like the BB. I hate being tied down to carrying a charger around all the time. Other then that, I've heard some pretty good reviews RE: the 920. |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
There is no doubt that tweaks can be made to pep up the battery. It is a v1.0 software, after all.
The Lumia 920 is so big and clunky. I am looking at an HTC 8X now, which also doesn't have a replaceable battery. Then again, if anyone can find an LS-1 battery for the Z10, let me know :-) |
Re: I tried. Really, I tried.
The weight of a 97xx is only 118g including battery - 20g less then the Z10. It is much smaller then the Z10. The only problem with it is the small screen. Omit the screen. Then you have <100g. Add google glass.
Then you have something usable without drawbacks. Edit: I will stay with my 9700 + playbook combination. It offers 2 days of mobility, and if needed a large screen. |
