Pearl 2 ont successful?

The Torch and the Pearl 2 Have bene launched neural at the same time.

From judging of the number of posts on this forum for the Pearl 2 relative to the Torch, which are less than 1/10th, as well as my "visual impressions" I have the impression thismnew product is not Vera successful, and nowhere near the success the 8100 enjoyed from day one.

just an impression?

The number of posts comparison between the two device threads is not a very accurate way to measure how successful a device is.

You could assume that the pearl is 1/10th as popular as the torch, or you could assume that the torch is having 10x the problems.

If you actually wanted an accurate report you would have to obtain a RIM quarterly statement or something similar.

^^ Or ask the sales guys at your local best buy/electronics place.

The Pearl 9100 is not selling as good as RIM expected it to. People have gotten used to the full qwerty form factor and have picked up, say a 97xx over a 9100 any day.

Especially the way carriers/store price them. A 97xx on contract @ 0-100$ on a 3yr. term vs. a 9100 which is 0-50$ on a 3yr term.

I'll take the 97xx thanks! :o

I actually really, really like the form-factor on the new Pearl, but just think the whole world is going to/wants to go to touch screen or at least the biggest screen possible. I anxiously await the Triton (or whatever may be the Storm/Storm2 replacement. I just got my wife the white Torch (unlocked on tmo) and love playing around with it! It seems like Blackberry got the screen right on this one and all...

Just think if RIM would have figured out how to have the Pearl2 be the size, thin-ness that it is, but all touchscreen... a guy can dream, can't he?

Sounds nice... Maybe?

Re: Pearl 2 ont successful?

Well, in the US, AT&T didn't start selling the darned thing until nearly 6 whole months after it was originally announced.

Then, they haven't bothered to reduce the price on the thing to a reasonable level.

Meanwhile, the Torch gets announced and released with a big marketing push between the Pearl 3G's announcement and eventual release with virtual neglect by AT&T. The only people who even knew about the Pearl 3G was those of us who have been waiting for a good upgrade from our old Pearl for years (like me, with my 8100).

I ended up getting the Torch last December while they had them for 1 cent for a refurbished model and a 2-year renewal.

How much for a new Torch? $100 for a 2 year contract. Same for the Curve 3G, BTW.

How much for a Pearl 3G? $150 for a 2 year contract.

The 9100 is not successful because AT&T is pricing it to sit on their shelves. Why? I don't know. But when the little Pearl 3G is the most expensive BlackBerry that AT&T offers by 50 flippin' bucks, what do you think will happen?

Must admit i've had one of the old Pearls a while back & hated the thing with a passion...got rid but missed my push email & stuff so started using a 8520 curve instead thats just died on me, tried the 9105 pearl 3G and find now its a better layout for my old fat fingers than the 8520..plus i've 3G as well now so its a lot quicker
