The iPhone May Compete With the BlackBerry Pearl More Than You Think
|
Yeah, heres a thought. How many "Blackberry Killers" does that make that have been written about in the last 2 years? I have lost track. Last time I checked (and the writer of the article should have as well), RIM is alive and kicking and still selling Blackberrys as fast as they can. Maybe he was confused and thinking about Lindows being the next "Windows" killer. Or maybe the Zune being the next "Ipod" killer.
Your link is a good starting point for what is bound to become a very interesting thread. But I am tired of reading people saying what is going to be the next killer of a well established and industry leading product. Soon as I see "killer" in the article, its tiem to move on to something different. |
Depends- basically I don't see anyone touching the email security features in the corp market for quite a bit. As a personal entertainment device, no doubt it will. If they can get push email on it, it will compete.

I think this seems more in line with what the iphone will be all about... At least for a while... We'll see I guess... http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/12/03/kevin-rose-confirms-iphone/ |
*******Thatttt Lol Nothing Compares To The Blackberryyy Pearllll Iphonee Sucksss Lol

The article doesn't give much information about the features of the iPhone, just that the iPod users will shift to iPhone.
Anyway if iPhone does give competetion to BB, atleast the consumers will benefit via pricing and advancements. |

I agree you could take any other device that has come out on the market in recent months and put it in the place of "iPhone" in this article. |

I agree with your post in terms of "The Sky is Falling," attitude, but I am not convinced that the iPhone wouldn't be Pearl’s biggest foe. If Apple gets it right (as it did with the iPod) and give the iPhone push-mail and "mini MacOS" abilities, plus music, cam and all that jazz: It will give the Pearl a run for its money. I never thought of it as "death" to RIM but rather a competition. And a good one at that. Keep this in mind: Before the iPod’s birth Sony had a monopoly on the MP3/headsets market. |
Thanks for the article, but personally I am unconcerned. My 8100 does everything I need it to do. Let everyone else eat whatever variety of cake they desire.
*yawn* |
only if it offers push email will it compete. I am not willing to give up that. Also, the slider keyboard would definitely be a deal-breaker (so ugly)

i just read the article and it doesn't really say much about the phone's features. Here's some insider info on the rumored features: Mac Rumors: iPhone 4GB and 8GB, Coming in January?

Again, this is not a doomsday-approach to RIM's future, just a little heads-up speculations. |
Dont like it much, not a I pod lover at all
|
the other factor I didn't see discussed here is the Price of the iPhone.
In order to be competitive, it must be priced similar to the 8100 as well. Any clues on what the pricing could be like? |

As long as the BB does what it does and I need then I am happy. When it stop keeping up with technology, which doesnt seem like it will happen being the Pearl was just released, I will look elsewhere.
I dont think the business sector, a guess but probably the biggest users, want or care about the frills. They just want a solid working, proven with a long long trackrecord, PDA and the BB is the only real option. I know a few business users who frown on the Pearl not considering it a real BB as it has the camera/MP3's/plays videos, etc.... I am sure they would feel likewise with any similiar pda. I saw a phone, from Sprint I think, that shows TV, Verizons have Vcast video, one has a radio, one has a stylus and touch screen, etc... You just need to decide on what features you need and go from there. If you worry what every new phone released has your going to go crazy. |
i would say the second article ibrg posted looks the best
(iPhoneFreak: Broadcom to be part of the iPhone) i would buy it because i love mac.. if it didnt have push email i would get it as a second phone.. |

RIM is taking a good route with the 8100 by adding entertainment features to a business-oriented device. But no one in his or her right mind would look at an iPhone as a business device. That alone will prevent it from being a Blackberry killer. Business applications may not be sexy, but they do make the world go 'round. |
