hey did you buy this from a phone shop? if so I had the same problem and I ended up going back to the shop and they spent half an hour going through it with me, time well spent as I was pulling my hair out trying to work it out myself.

Easily found online with a little help from google.

Delete device data, third-party applications, or media card files - User Guide - BlackBerry Bold 9000 Smartphone - 5.0

You will need a Blackberry Data plan on your cell phone account to use email, bbm, and other data related things.

And read this, wether you bought it from eBay or not. It apples to buying any used BB: Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ
