Wow!!!!!! Thank you for sharing

I'm not so sure that everyone will be pleased. We waited this long for Windows 7 64 bit support, and it arrived via V6. HOWEVER, in their brilliance, RIM neglected to THINK of supporting Office 2010 64 bit.

NJBlackBerry 08-10-2010 01:42 PM

Office 2010 64 bit does not communicate with ANY 32 bit applications. Blame Microsoft. Your ire is misplaced. If you want RIM to develop a 64 bit DM, then you may wait a while. Businesses that use 64 bit are likely to have BES, so it's not an issue.

Thanks for clearing it up, but unfortunately this still doesn't do me any good. I perhaps naively thought that when i bought my new Dell a few weeks ago and it came with Windows 7 64 bit that the technology had developed to the point of full commercialization.
So off to the store i trot to buy my Office 2010 64 bit to match my new OS not trying to think what software it wouldn't run with.
And much to my dismay, v5 didn't run my Office 2010, but no worries cause V6 was being released today. Until I installed it and found out it wouldn't run my Office 2010, and of course I can't go back to the store and return it. And I guess bad on me because I'm just a regular consumer who wants his calendars synced and not a BES user.
So now I'm stuck with Windows 7 64 bit, Office 2010 64 bit, but have no fear, because I'm due for an upgrade, and guess what? It won't be a Blackberry, because to the best of my knowledge both Android and iPhone do!

So just return your 2010 64 bit.
Besides, it has been known for weeks now that this DM release would not support Outlook 2010 64 bit. Sorry you didn't get the memo. Or search.

Some other forums noted problems installing Desktop 6.0 if you did not install 5.0 beforehand.

I ended up using the check for updates feature from Desktop 5 (under the Help menu), which promptly found version 6.0 and took care of all the configuration.

Everything went pretty painlessly except for having to re-establish my Bluetooth connection (ended up deleting the old connection to my device, rebooted the PC, added device back through Windows, then Desktop 6 found the Bluetooth connection).

I'm running XP SP3 and sync my data to Outlook 2007 (BIS).

hi all, after reading this thread i got scared to death b/c of that x64 pc with Outlook 2010 failure, even though I'm running Vista x64 with Outlook 2007, I'm ready to get in my hands Torch 9800, so i tried to download it and checked with my 9700, everything works the way it should, sync, backups and everything else, love those new media sync futures, I'm happy. Now all i need is to get my new Torch and mess around. :)

You are the first of many, many people who will find themselves in the same predicament. Before you give up on Blackberry I have heard of CompanionLink. I also plan on buying a 64 bit machine and installing 64 bit Office. I have not tried CompanionLink, but it looks promising...

Hope this helps...

Has anybody uninstalled version 5.0? Usually that happens "automatically" before the newer version is installed. Wondering if you have to keep 5.0???

I have a BB 9700. Got a update notification on all three of my desktops. I tried to update on one computer and it ran up to 99% and then started spinning it's wheels. 40 minutes later i canceled the instal. Do I need to have the BB connected to the computer when the update is started? It does not specify and did not want to connect in case it screwed something up.

From what I know, RIM hasn't supported Redirector in quite sometime. That is why it is really flakey, unreliable for many and downright unusable for others. My guess is that since BES and BIS are much more developed and robust in their past releases, Redirector has gone by the wayside.

Doesn't really give you an answer though.

Bad Media Manager 6.0, bad!

You can't retrieve internal memory files anymore :( Thanks to my upgrade to v6.0 I now have 60 photos stuck on my device memory :(

neil154 08-13-2010 02:32 PM

Well I have installed the Desktop software (but can not see how to know what the actual version number is). I do not like the fact that the sync automatically starts upon connection, is there any setting that will stop the sync from automatically starting.

Second issue is I have a "add-in" called EWallet and the automatic sync does not sync the add-in. Is there any way to have the add-in included in the automtic sync?

Andi 08-13-2010 02:54 PM

Yes - Device menu then Device Options then uncheck the the options at connection

Can't find add-in sync... not sure about that but I have a high end user who will flip out if he can't sync data vault - hope he doesn't update to the new DM

neil154 08-13-2010 03:15 PM

Okay, the wording on the options page is misleading but based on your advice I got it to start without auto starting the sync.

The add-in sync does work but does not work with the automatic start of the sync. In order to sync the add-in you must have the device selected and then presss "sync all" in lower right or select add-in on the left and then sync.

Thanks for your help.
