Latest OS: 9550 5.0.0.1754/5.0.0.1082 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Storm 2 (TM) 9550 smartphone
This will install to any carrier's model 9550 by following the instructions below.

Software Name: BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1754 (Multilanguage)
File Name: 9550AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1754_PL4.2.0.487_A5.0.0.1082_ Appalachian_Wireless.exe
Download Size: 121.440 MB
Language: English
Published Date: 06/20/2011

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9550:
Download this file: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...54EEF86213D719

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

The one thing I hate when I install a new iteration of the OS is having to re-accept the license agreement with a lot of the apps and in some cases having to hunt for the activation key to enter again.

So far no issues and can't really tell if anything has changed.

Hey, I've been using this .1082 release now for 48 hours... it's ok by me. No downgrades from the previous .1015, and one thing that IS fixed is the Bedside Mode works when connected to an electrical charger.

MY ADVICE... after the upgrade, mine was initial laggy, but after a couple of hours all was fine. Make sure you leave at least 80mb of file free in the memory (and 100mb is recommended). Otherwise, you're gonna be fighting low memory issues.

??Can this be used on a 9550 that is unlocked, has no data plan, and is using an international SIM card that registers through the T-Mobile service??

I just need to get the phone to send/receive calls and text, as well as WIFI. The phone does all this, but I can't hear the sound, and some of the buttons don't function anymore. When I was unlocking it, they had me wipe the phone. (I did this via entering the password 10 times incorrectly.) I don't know if I need a new OS & Service Books or just service books, or something else. The phone still registers the old phone number but is unlocked and shows T-Mobile and Edge at the top.

PLEASE ADVISE if I should download this OS and/or Service Books. If both, what order should it be done? And do you have a link to getting the Service Books without having a data plan? On another forum I saw instructions that showed that it was not necessary to have a data plan, but the link to the OS was no longer working. ww.blackberryforums.com/general-9500-series-discussion-storm/216084-how-upgrade-bb-out-data-plan.html

Can someone help?
