OS: 9700 5.0.0.1446/5.0.0.862 (Multilanguage)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1446 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 5.0.0.1446
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.862
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.175
* File name: 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1446_PL5.1.0.175_A5.0.0.862.exe
* File size: 140 MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS here:http://support.vodafone.de/publicfil...A5.0.0.862.exe

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Although it's been mentioned in various beta OS forums, this version enables UMA on Rogers-branded 9700's running on the Rogers Wireless Network. YMMV for other branded BB's on other networks.

:idea: Took me about 30 seconds to decipher what YMMV meant. I thought perhaps it was some new kind of BB technology that I was not previously aware of.

isn't this the same OS posted by me yesterday?

Matrix Leader 08-07-2010 05:24 AM

Installed this last week

Sweet. Thanks for posting this. Now I can update because Sling Player Mobile is suppose to work on this OS.

BrandonC 08-07-2010 11:10 AM

I have been running it for a few days now and the Slingplayer has been working fine.
I am using Player version.13. You might want to make sure your are using it and not an older version too.

Thanks for the find...

I just finished updating and everything works from Shazam to my SlingPlayer.

I updated from 593 to 862.

I noticed the UMA symbol when I'm connected via WiFi (I'm with Rogers Wireless). Unfortunately, I don't have UMA enabled on my account so I can't test it to make calls.

The only thing missing from this firmware that was present in my older 593 appears to be the Asian character support.

UPDATE: Bing doesn't appear to work for me after the update but then again, I don't use it much so I deleted it from my Bold 9700.

I don't have UMA enabled on my account either, but can still use UMA to make calls. HOWEVER, without UMA on your account, the minutes used in a UMA call will still come out of your wireless minutes' bucket.

But for me, I have spotty/poor wireless coverage in my basement. Usually I am next to my router, so I have always had email/BBM/browsing ability with or without UMA, but I did not have call capability. Now, with UMA, I can make/receive cellular calls even if I have poor or no network signal.

I don't make enough calls to justify signing up for a UMA Add-On, but UMA capability is still huge for me to avoid missing calls.

Yes it is... this one was posted first. No difference otherwise.

Thanks for the explanation. I tried it but unfortunately it doesn't work on my account even though the UMA symbol is there (probably because Rogers put a voice block on my account).

All the same, perhaps some difference language options would be the only difference.

Not sure what's going on, but I've uninstalled .770, reinstalled .862, deleted the Vendor file, and still, this doesn't come up in the App Loader.

knottyrope 08-09-2010 04:16 PM

Desktop manager had a copy of vendor XML that prevented me to install it.

have to search PC for it in hidden folders.
