Key Ports?

Ok, so I've not long had this BlackberryBold 9700, and I was lucky enough to drop it down the toilet.

I left it to dry over night, and it turns on just fine, only a few problems with the screen, but it works eventually.

but if I leave the phone for a while, it says something about key ports, and then. Press any button to abandon.

If you don't press abandon, the phone turns off.

2. I am also having some trouble with my space bar? every time I click it, it closes down Blackberry messenger sometimes. I can't see anyone knowing how to help, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to BB Forums.

Not much you can do with a wet BB, but try the suggestions here -> Got Your BlackBerry Wet? - BlackBerryFAQ

Re: Key Ports?

Drying it overnight is not enough time.
3 days minimum and five days for most certainty.

Read the link NJ posted above.

It wasn't left in for long, so should I leave it for another 2 days?

And, if it's still not working after then, what can I do? Take it down to my provider store, and see if they can send it off to be fixed?

Water damage is not covered by warranty.
You'll have to get a new device if it will not work.

I tell people three days minimum, five days for more certainty and less gamble that it will fry.
You do the math to subtract the one day from that.

Good luck.

Sure it is. In fact, this is exactly what insurance is for.

Just not by warranty? Thanks for that. [edited original post]

Re: Key Ports?

Warranty doesn't cover anything that is caused by "user error" - so if you dunk it in liquid, if you carry it in pocket without a case and your keys crack the screen, if you put it through the wash by accident, leave it on your car roof then drive over it as it falls off... You get the idea.

Insurance covers user mistakes.
Warranty covers hardware/firmware/software faults that are no blame of the user.
