bb messenger issues

so i've been scouring the web for a solution--and still to no avail:

i'm been trying to add my contacts in bb messenger for days and days now, and their names are still under the pending category. if my friends try to add me, it's the same issue. they also have said they've never even received requests from me. i'm sending these requests via PIN. or at least, i think i am.

and just now, this request bounced back to me in my email???

this is probably a stupid question. sorry. ;)

1. Do you have a data plan? No data plan, no BB messenger. On both sides.
2. Are you adding your friends by their Blackberry PIN number? The BB messenger is only for communication between Blackberry devices and only by using each Blackberry's unique PIN number.
3. What does the message you got back say?

yes, i have a data plan. and so do my friends.

right now i sent a request to my friend via PIN and i received a request from POSTMASTER @ myworkemaildomain.com. so bizarre.

the email i got back just looked like your typical bounced back email... i deleted it, stupidly, but it didn't say much... it looked like it was also from my work domain email, though.

When did you activate the Blackberry data plan? It can take up to 48 hours (rare, but it happens) for everything to work correctly.

Are you adding a contact this way?

Go to BB Messenger, press the Menu key and select Add a Contact..., then typing in the PIN number of the other person's Blackberry?

Sounds to me like you're actually sending the request via email... but you're putting in the PIN number instead of an email address and your work mail server is freaking out about it.

Open BB Messenger
Click Menu Button
Choose 'Add A Contact'
Type in the PIN number... and make sure you choose PIN: abcd1234 instead of Email: abcd1234

Penguin process is correct, but make sure that your friends email addresses are also in your Address Book, in order for you to add them and vice versa.

Thanks penguin this worked for me too. I was just searching for this answer after 2 days of trying to add a contact but just wouldn't take. (y)
