New Blackberry User (8330)

Alright everyone, i am new to the world of blackberry.

I just purchased a blackberry 8330 from the local cash land for $35 and all it came with was the phone and the charger, it says on the phone its for boost mobile, right now the phone is charging, i was trying to activate the phone on boost mobiles website but the ESN and the MEID number was either not long enough number or an invalid number for some reason, idk if there is another way to activate it or maybe if its already activated for boost and see if i can just run it off the old user who originally bought the phone.

If anyone can give me an idea what i can do to activate it online, let me know

thanks,
Jim

Did you call Boost yet? You will probably need to talk to them. If the number is invalid, then it probably was reported as lost or stolen and the ESN and PIN were disabled. If that's the case, you have a nice $35 paperweight.

Re: New Blackberry User (8330)

Alright i just figured out how to get it setup, i had to set it up with the $3 a day plan cuz i only had a $20 card to start with cuz i figured it would work with the 10 cent a minute plan, but since it dont i had to go that route, now there is currently $7 left on my account after i had to spend $13 of that $20 to re-activate the account since its a used 8330.

My question is i would eventually like to get the $60 monthly unlimited but im not sure if i would have to pay the $60 up front to start that plan or if i wait till the end of the month to pay that $60. Would it be possible to set that plan up with only being $7 on my account right now, then later on i pay the $60? Any help would be appreciated.

Ok i finally got ahold of Boost and a blackberry rep, boost answered my questions about the plan, and also when i tried to use the phone i noticed that it was still setup for the previous owner and the old phone number to where i couldnt send a text or call. i got it all fixed since the blackberry rep had to guide me through the process to reset the whole phone to the factory default settings and all is well now.

the only thing im looking into now is different apps and themes for it. I also dont think i have the internet setup on it yet and i know i dont have the phone email setup either cuz its saying something about a pin code for the activation service of the email but i was never sent a pin code. lol Slowly but surely im getting the hang of this phone

Remember, apps and themes are device and OS specific, meaning you can only install those that are for the 8330 and for the OS you are using.

Did Boost put a BB data plan on your account? You need that for email, etc.

The 8330 is old. You shouldn't expect a lot of apps or themes to be available like they were 2 or 3 years ago.

the only plan that i have on it right now is the $3 a day unlimited, im actually going to upgrade to the $60 monthly unlimited soon. Im actually not sure what OS is on the phone right now, im not sure how to access it. I tried to setup my email for the phone but it says i have to have a blackberry enterprise server administrator give me an activation password. I dont know what that means, im guessing i have to contact blackberry and have them guide me through it so they can give me a password?

yea i understand that, i just wanna upgrade it a little that way its not so basic and plain like it is right now.

Its so plain i cant even find out where the heck to access the internet or even if i have the internet setup on this phone. the only thing i can do with it right now is text and make calls. I cannot access emails, or go on the internet and use facebook or go on youtube, its pretty sad. lol

You need a specific Blackberry data plan for email. You do not have one, that is why you get the enterprise server message. Enterprise server is BES, which is corporate connection for email, etc. You need BIS (Blackberry Internet Services) which is the personal service.

You need to talk to Boost and have them add the BB data plan, if they offer it for your device. RIM won't help you since it is the carriers that provide the service to RIM.
