Latest OS : Bold 9000 4.6.0.298/4.6.0.167 (Multilanguage)

From AT&T, Yep, it's better than other carriers builds.
This OS will load to ANY carrier's 9000 model by following the instructions below.

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.298 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.0.298
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.6.0.167
* Software Platform: 4.0.0.157
* File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel298_PL4.0.0.157_A4.6.0.167_AT&T. exe
* File size: 93.32MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download MultiLanguage version here
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.6 installed. Older versions will load the OS but may not be full compatible with all the memory of the Bold. You can get DM 4.6 here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Damm - and I was just finishing downloading the previous version.

TChachra 10-22-2008 06:24 PM

I just finished the .166 install myself.
Sheesh.
Lets start downloading.....at 38k per second.....

Emboldened 10-22-2008 07:18 PM

25% to go, but again, as woth 166, not sure if I'll update yet... I have a feeling this one will be optimized for the AT&T 3G network that has caused so many problems with the iPhone.

TChachra 10-22-2008 07:20 PM

Update completed, restore in progress.
Lets hope the call quality is clearer with this update.
The other version were killing me!

TChachra 10-22-2008 08:02 PM

So far....
Images when viewed show thumbnails about 40% faster.

Email general options now show Display order. Currently set to Name,Subect. Dont know if I missed this before or if its new. Can be set to Subject, Name if you prefer.

Overall - Blackberry is running much faster then .166 or beta .167.

Camera is much faster....quality is the same but it loads faster and moves on.

Voice quality - when making 3 - 4 test calls sounds great. No more break ups when using 3G.

Wi-FI seems normal.

All for now.

TChachra 10-22-2008 08:13 PM

Reminder - Pull the Battery and reboot the device after a successful upgrade.
It is reported to set the battery on track.

Keep in mind RIM creates the OS, not the provider. It is entirely possible, and probable, that other providers will release .167 as well. Not saying there weren't changes made to help ATT's network, just saying it will be the same going forward.

This is the version that came on the launch bolds. I assume it will be the same on Nov 4.

Still d/loading. Failed in 3 attempts. 4Mb and then 5mb d/loaded. Hoping 3rd times a charm. :D

Help Please

I have a rogers bold and tried to install .167 and I am getting nothing but s blank screen and a blinking red light? the Desktop manager does not see the blackberry bold. It stops at loading system software. Blackberry just blinks and does not boot.

Does anyone know what to do?

Gordon

First download up to 74MB failed; 2nd download took about an hour successful. Just finished installing - immediate notice memory lkeft only 36MB vs previous 51MB. This new firmware is really bloated then. Hope the performance improvement will justify the memory increase

Damn, I just finished getting .166 reactivated on BES. Wouldn't have bothered had I got the forum to come in my browser, seemed to be unresponsive.

However, .166 does seem zippier than .162. so I'm happy to stick with this .166 if no other problems crop up.

Also .166 has software platform .158 where as this .167 has .157. I wonder what the difference is?

Hmmm.....wondering if there's another factor at play here because I get the same feeling going from .162 to .166

akc786 10-23-2008 04:02 AM

I believe it's different than the one leaked as beta.

This offical .167 is 93.316 Mb in size whereas beta was 107 Mb in size.

There must be a difference.

What you guys say ?

Katharina 10-23-2008 05:19 AM

what about the battery-life? any better than in the previous?
I have .162 and it hasn't really improved to the version before :-(
and would this OS maybe fix the problems with the media-player who doesn't see the songs in the subfolders? any ideas?

Usually size differences are due to supported languages
