Re-activate BB via WIFI

Hi,

I have the problem that after an update I cannot use any BB services.

I am in a country that does NOT support BB sevices so I used WIFI for BB messenger, e-mail etc.
Now after the update it does not work anymore.

At the connection menu it states BIS: no connection, BES no connection.
Also VPN status: profile missing or not "entered" (dutch language menu).
I suspect that I need to activate something.

Can anybody help me get the services to work again?

Thanks in advance!

TL

extra info:

I can browse the internet using WIFI but not services like BB app world

I'm just winging it here ... Once you have a wifi connection established, what happens if you go into the manage internet email app on the device and then re-send service books?

Hi Ira,

Thanks fot thinking along!

What exactly do you mean with the manage internet email app"?

Kind regards,

I tried the online service of my provider and resend the settings but that does not help. I also tried leaving the wifi connection "open" but no joy...
It seems that the settings are send via BES but since i cannot connect to the BES I do not receive the settings...

Do you know what "normally" happens?

If I am in a country were i normally can use the 3g/gprs network with BES does my sim card activates it self automativally?

I'm thinking of buying a 2-way ticket to civilisation for a day...

There is an icon on your device, maybe labled setup internet email, or manager internet email, or something like that. It may be in a setup folder. From there you may see a link or a menu item for re-sending service books.

I don't know that you can re-send service books without connection to the RIM/blackberry network via the mobile network. As I say, I'm just thinking of things to try. My thought is that since the device can use BIS over wifi, then maybe it is possible to get service books over wifi, but I don't know. And if you are using BES, I really don't know.

Thanks, I'm also trying everthing I can think of...

If I cannot get it to work here and it works after a visit to civilisation I'll let you know.

Thanks again,

TL

btw, if i use the wizard for e-mail setup, it simply states that I am not in an area of coverage and does nothing... ( i can make and receive calls here but no BB service)

Ok. There's more to this than I undestand. For what it's worth, turned off mobile network and while just using wifi I re-sent service books using the manage internet email app on the device. The difference between me and you is that I am connected to my BIS service provider even though on wifi; where you are on a different network than your normal provider and not connecting to your blackberry data plan provider. Or that's what makes sense to me. ... Or maybe the only reason I was able to do it is that I already had the service books that allowed me to connect to the proper location through wifi. If I didn't have service books to begin within, I suspect I would see what you are seeing. But I'm just speculating.

When you switch off the mobile network it is exactly like I had it working before the update.
I think I really need to go to a civilized country for a while to re-activate...

Thanks for your help,

TL

So when you turn off mobile network and just have wifi on, you are able to use blackberry apps? Then you turn on mobile network and can't use blackberry apps, even though wifi is on at the same time?

If it helps.... sometimes I have had trouble getting UMA and WiFi service going until I synch the security certificates via the Desktop Manager.

With T-Mobile, there were both some T-Mobile certificates and some US.T-Mobile certificates that seemed to be important (even though they were listed with "?" status in Synchronize Certificates app within Desktop Manager.

Well...

I still have no answer to my own question but after I (momentariily) logged in onto a network supporting BES/BIS everything worked again, also via wifi with no mobile coverage.
I needed to receive the certificates again and I anybody know how to get them via any other means than via the mobile network, I am very interested!

One more think to try: connect the device by USB to a PC with Desktop Manager installed that is also connected to the internet. This should activate the service routing protocol (aka serial bypass) and may get things boot strapped. If, as aiharkness postulates, this depends on ServiceBooks being on the device, it may also be a chicken/egg situation.
