Latest OS 9930 7.1.0.1737 / 7.1.0.580 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v7.1.0.1737 (All Languages)
Will install to any carrier's 9930 by following these instructions.

Package Version: 7.1.0.1737
Consisting of:
Applications: 7.1.0.580
Software Platform: 5.1.0.429
File name: 9930jAllLang_PBr7.1.0_rel1737_PL5.1.0.429_A7.1.0.5 80_Sprint_L.P.exe
File size: 281.53MB
Language: Multilanguage

Download the OS file here: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...BB765225CE8C0E

Instructions for installing on the 9930:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Any lagging or slowdowns? What about improved battery performance?

Re: Latest OS 9930 7.1.0.1737 / 7.1.0.580 (Multilanguage)

battery performance for me never seems to change based on OS version. (I have had horrible battery performance after installing some apps though, so I promptly remove them.)

No lags.

Only glitch I have seen is that my main messages icon shows a star sometimes even though there are no unread messages. And, probably related, when I view things like the calendar it will show a starred envelope in the top status area (again no new messages). ( don't see that on the top status area on the main screen though.

Some glitches have been fixed from the last version I had, which I can't recall off hand (like icons on the main screen not being visible until I move the selector).

Verizon's version of the same OS can be downloaded from here.

Would there be any actual difference between Verizon's and the Sprint one I downloaded above?

Maybe in terms of bloatware or bundled services/apps. In terms performance or anything like that, I don't believe so. Maybe a stray version difference version between the two builds and say BBM, one may have an older version depending.

Are there official release notes posted anywhere by chance on what was fixed/added/removed etc.?

Just curious....

You've been on this board for almost 4 years.
Have there EVER been release notes?

It shouldn't, but as always, make sure you back up your device before you upgrade.

Guess not. Kind of frustrating don't ya think? I don't know why they cannot release them. Why do we all have to be beta testers and wonder what was changed and/or fixed? Ridiculous.

Heh. So true. Although I do recall being *SHOCKED* a year or two ago when VZW released a changelog and a PDF highlighting new features of a major release. I think it might have been an OS release for the 9630 or 9650 when they started offering PTT.

Of course, even knowing I wouldn't find one, I came across this thread searching for a .580 changelog :)

You can't install software for one device (9900) on another (9930).
The end.
