Back up and restore exact contents of 8900?

I have an old version of the BB OS that has been behaving strangely lately. I am considering upgrading to the latest version, but am concerned that it will be incompatible with my applications, and that I will dislike some of the new features.

Before updating, can I create something like an "image" of my current phone? That way, if I don't like the update, I can revert to *exactly* what I have now, without having to spend hours and hours reinstalling and reconfiguring apps?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, and thank you in advance for any help.

Not a stupid question.

As far as I know, there is no way to make an "image".

Maybe can but very difficult. I know some BBer replace some contents of the install program with older or reedited the program to meet some special need, but it must skillfull on program write.
