Assigning ringtones, message
 

I have the bb style since March. I have been having trouble with the assigned ringtones to phone and messages working. I am with Sprint and they replaced the phone. I am having the same trouble with the new one. Except this time, the phone decides on its own whether to use the assigned ringtone/msg alert. Occasionally it works, most times it doesn't. I have spoken to Sprints tech, but it hasn't helped. I spoke with Sprint in the mall, the guy changed assigned text alert for ALL texts, which is not what I wanted. He reset to what it was, but now the assigned tone alerting me when my daughter texts, no longer works. I am sooooo frustrated over this. I know how to do the assigning, but something clearly isn't right. A battery pull is not correcting the problem either. It is a big hassle to bring the phone in to have it serviced as it is not close to home and it has always been jam packed with people when I've been there.

When you say 'on it's own', does that mean sometimes it will work and sometimes not? Are they stock ringers or custom ones on your SD card?

Mostly custom. I've downloaded free ringtones, bought some and also use songs from my list. The ringers pretty much work all the time. It's the texts that are giving me issues. It makes no sense that the assigned text alert will work sometimes and not most times.

Do the phone numbers have ANY punctuation in them?

Take out ALL the punctuation if you want the custom ringtones to work properly.

Thank you Motorcycle Mama! It worked! Do you have any ideas on how to get custom alert on a chosen contact in BBM? In BBM it didn't work, but on reg. text, it does. Thanks.:smile:

Nope. You currently cannot set up a custom alert for a BBM contact.

I hope that someday they make this functionality possible. But currently it is not possible.
