Questions re: selecting bb or iphone in enterprise
Hi everyone,
I started working at a bank and been requested to prepare a brief report to help the senior team to decide whether to use Blackberry or iphone within the enterprise. Therefore need answers to the below questions. Would be really mostly appreaciated if you could provide me some help on this; Thanking you all in advance. 1. Deployment of an iPhone enterprise server to be a secure, centralized link between an organization network and iPhone devices, and integration with network infrastructure. 2. iPhone communication with Microsoft Exchange enabling push emails, calendar, contacts and tasks. 3. iPhone synchronization with the Exchange server 4. Policies to control device functionalities such as application installation/download, device wipe, device authentication features, limit Bluetooth functionalities etc. via an administration web tool (IT managed server) 5. Integrity of wireless data transmitted between iPhone devices and internal network. 6. Security and encryption of data on device 7. Monitoring tools to track users’ activities |
Re: Questions re: selecting bb or iphone in enterprise
You need only one thread.
http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-...nterprise.html Both iPhone and BlackBerry will do what you want. It will be a matter of what your management is willing to spend on the required infrastructure to implement. The other cost to factor in is the tariff from the mobile providers. iPhone tariffs tend to be less expensive and more flexible, whereas BlackBerry devices require special data plans. In Turkey, obviously Avea will be your cheap option, but you'll get better coverage from Turkcell and Vodafone in my experience. For business use, you should look to get a 2-4 GB data allowance on the tariff, which will run around 150-250TL monthly depending on whether your management is willing to sign a contract. |
Re: Questions re: selecting bb or iphone in enterprise
Nothing beats BES for this. MDM can do most of it but you needs like 4 servers.
You could do both BB and ithings with BlackBerry Mobile Fusion BlackBerry - Mobile Fusion - Manage BlackBerry iOS & Android Devices I dont think there is a one answer for this, there are many products out there but now many with one in the same box. I have used BES for years now and for me Fusion makes sense as I dont want to learn a whole nother server with a complete diff layout. |

At this point, if you want to support BB and any other AS devices, you need a BES and then a server for the other MDM solution. That's only 2. I hate to break it to you, but BB Mobile Fusion is a whole different layout. It's on par with most MDM solutions out there. |
Re: Questions re: selecting bb or iphone in enterprise
RIM's offering didn't even make Gartner's Magic Quadrant, published last month.
Research In Motion - RIM is just getting to commercial availability of its MDM platform, Mobile Fusion. Although it doesn't meet this year's criteria because of market launch timing, it does have an installed base of 10,000 enterprises that it can target. RIM won't bring any new capabilities to managing iOS and Android this year that others can't do, but could be a force if it decides to invest more in this area. |

I looked at MDM here for its needs, Also notice the full SQL server needed along with 3 server OSes
System Requirements for MDM Servers and Managed Devices We can argue about what is best forever, you need to decide what is best for you and your budget. I gave my opinion. |

Also, will these other MDM solutions be able to build there own apps for the BB10 devics? It's questions like this we are all dealing with. I have to make a decision on MF in the next couple of weeks and there is not much out there to pull information from regarding MF. |
