Enteprise Activation with BB Storm

Hi we have BES version 4.1.6.15 wich is version 4.1SP6.

We have like 20 users with blackberry and every enterprise activation we made worked fine. But now we just receive a new blackberry storm 9530 and the activation don't work. It's stucked at activation of user in progress and it always failed. Anybody can help me ? Is there a way to have more details of why it don't work

Thanks !

Wrong data plan or you have an outdated device.xml file on the BES.

supportvb 01-14-2009 03:26 PM

What do you mean by an outdated.xml file ?

Thanks !

Check the data plan.

Wipe the device and try again.

Yup sounds like data plan, why do people never check that before posting??? supportvb see if you can send a PIN message from the device to itself, or any other PIN for that matter. If it fails, you aren't talking to RIM and that's the problem (almost definitely caused by data plan).

Did you check the data plan?

Not sure if it is the data plan. I've gotten BB's from our service provider and was able to activate without issue yet the user could not send or receive. The issue was related to the provider not flagging the device as being used on a BES. I would contact the service provider and make sure they have the devices flagged for BES usage. Once that is confirmed I would consider nuking the device and then reloading the BB o/s.

I have 3 Storms activated on our BES v4.13 with no issue and without deleting any files.

If that is the case, then it IS the data plan.

nuking would not be necessary.

Data Plans can be the most painfull thing to deal with.

I even had someone @ vodaphone tell me that it was correct and to check my logs/firewall/etp message/Mailserver/Bes services. I smell BS now.

So I told the guy "NO! Listen to me, I dont care if you think it is right and dont question my system, I called you do do two things only. Remove the current data plan and after 5 min, add in the expensive blackberry data plan."

Boy was he getting mad.

Finally he said "Fine, but it wont do anything"

minutes later, I said "EA OTA worked" and the guy hung up on me.

haha sounds about right for Vodafone! FWIW I always tell my guys now to go straight to billing. The big mistake with the networks (carriers) is talking to their tech support about data plans/activating the SIM for BES. They always want to troubleshoot as that's all they know. I go straight to customer services team, tell them the account needs the full BB plan and viola, sorted in 5 mins :-).

Hi Guys. I'm new to this whole blackberry world and am struggling with 2 storms on BES that won't activate. The data plan is the only thing left. I'm not getting intelligent beings on the other side nor am I confident about what I am speaking, so a little help would be appreciated! Is the default setup for a carrier typically the RIM conifg? and if that is setup it won't do BES? Should I tell them to delete the phone and re-set it up with BES? Is there other terminology I need to know here? Arrrrg!

The default by carriers seems to be the consumer tarrif, aka BIS, what you are looking for is the Enterprise one. 95% of the time it is dearer as well.

stuwhite 05-19-2009 04:31 AM

Yup and to add to that, you need to get a SIM card from a working BB and try that in the Storm.

If it works, the data plan on the other SIM isn't BES-enabled and you have a nice test result you can throw at them.

If the known good SIM doesn't work on the Storm, you have probably got a case of the device itself being provisioned for Consumer, not Enterprise. That is different from the data plan and can be fixed by the carrier re-provisioning it for Enterprise (i.e. resending the relevant service books).
