WiFi and WAP Browser?

I just got a new BlackBerry, the 8520. It has WiFi unlike my last BlackBerry 8310. Now I'm with Rogers and I don't have normal data. I have a messaging data plan which gives me unlimited messaging, e-mail, sms, mms and some other cool things. With this plan I can't brows the net. I was told that if I have WiFi and I use the WAP browser I can brows the net. Right on....but how do I get the WAP browser? My phone doesnxxx8217;t have it on there already.

Check for hidden icons and check in folders, and check hidden icons in folders. If you don't find it, resend service books. If that still doesn't do it for you, then call Rogers and find out what's going on.

Be aware some people can use wifi without a BlackBerry data plan and some can't. Rogers says you can, but do your own reaearch and reach your own conclusions.

Also be aware that even though you are connected to wifi, the BlackBerry may send and receive data over the mobile network if mobile network is not off. Again, do your resaearch and draw your own conclusions.

Try the following. Find the "Set Up Wi-Fi" icon. Click on it, then click on "Scan For Networks". Select your preferred wi-fi network, and follow the easy set-up. Once you're done, you'll see a new window saying something like "You BlackBerry device is connected to the internet". Just click the Menu button, select "Go To" and then just type the web address you want to access.
Once the one network is set up, whenever you want to connect to wi-fi with through your phone, you can click on "Set Up Wi-Fi" and then on "Wi-Fi Hotspot Login". Or, just use your "Browser" (NOT THE ROGERS WAP BROWSER), but make sure to go to "Options - Advanced Options - Browser" first, and select "Hotspot/Wi-Fi Browser" as your "Default browser configuration", and save the changes.
That should get you going on wi-fi without any problems.

PS... one good thing about Rogers, I think, is that if you have a BlackBerry with no data plan, and you try using non wi-fi internet, you'll come to a Rogers page asking you to select a data plan to be able to connect.
This way, you know you're using wi-fi and not the Rogers network. :) Happy Holidays!

Do you have a BlackBerry data plan? That is, data service specifically for the BlackBerry?
