R.I.P. My OEM Blackberry Curve Leather Holster

Would just like to say farewell to my OEM 8300 series leather holster. Purchased on Nov of 2007.

Today, it just gave out, as I was helping a customer and the clip snapped. I was sadden because I was using it with my new 8900 curve and the thing worked perfect on a skinned 8900. The sleeper function worked excellent!

So my trusty case is gone. It's been through a lot and was always there for me. I stuck with it because it worked with my 8900 with a skin on! I bought the koskin oem 8900 holster, and there was no way I could get it to work with a skin. It was way to tight!

R.I.P buddy (literally). I'll never forget all that time you spend on the side of my belt. :-(

However, there is always light at the end of the tunnel! About two days ago, I recieved my "premium" oem 8900 leather holster. I knew it wasn't going to fit with a skin, but I was determined. I figured, maybe I can stretch it out enough. Well after one day with a stack of business cards, and then the following day with a Sprint Treo 755p Dummy phone stuck in it for the next day, here are the results!

Quite honestly, I do like the design of this holster way better. It looks alot better, and coverage area is greater. It's not smooth going in and out, you still have to work it, but the case is getting looser and looser. It needs more time and it will be loose enough for me to do a quick draw. Right now its a pretty snug fit and I got to wiggle it out. Putting the phone into the holster isn't as bad, but it's getting better overall by the minute.

So I guess this case came in just in time!

For those curious, I guess you can make it work. Just a little patience.

Yup, patience is a virtue. I left an 8125 in one of mine for about a week and it stretched out just great

Nice...I'm still rocking my 83xx holster with a added magnet on the back to put it to sleep correctly...

Hmmm, maybe I should let it sit for a week.

I did try putting a Sprint Mogul in it, but I was really paranoid the seams would bust! But that is a good shape to stretch out the pouch. The Treo 755 was thick enough, but wasn't quite wide enough, which is prob why the pouch is still tight on the sides.

Breaking the OEM holster has happened to me two times for my last BB, the Pearl 8100. Both times I got out of the car and the holster got stuck on the car seat and broke. My fault... I just ordered the 8900 OEM holster, I will try to stretch it as well, as I use it currently with a gel skin.

I lost my 8300 holster about 2 weeks ago and ended up ordering a new 8900 oem leather holster as a replacement.

I just got it in the mail today and it definitely needs some stretching as I also use a silicon skin with my 8900. I got a deck of cards in the holster to stretch it out... only time will tell when its ready...

Its unusable when you first get it. I wonder what RIM was thinking. I miss a call before im able to pull it out of the holster!!

I am currently using the OEM RIM Premium Leather Case for the Bold as my 8900's protector and the fit is just fine. It's real leather too!

which skin are you using?

I have had multiple (like 20) 83xx leather holsters break like that. They suck and I would recommend people not buy them. I haven't tried the new 8900 holster, though. If it uses that same clip.....I'm not optimistic.

It doesn't, it seems tougher. It's still not like the 8700 series holsters (that was a fat clip!).

It's kind of a mix in between the 8300 and 8700 holsters.

As for what skin i'm using, the OEM one of course.

That's sad. :-(
Your clip broke on the case side, mine broke yesterday on the clip side. If you still had the clip, I could use it to repair my case.

I ordered a Fortte case which looks good. Because it's custom leather pattern (only $10 more) it takes a few weeks to ship. Looks great in the pix. They make several styles (I got the flipcase). I don't see hardly any people with them doing a search, thought maybe this case thread would chum up some folks(?). I contacted their CS and asked for a discount which they were nice enuf to send (code) via email very promptly. What I like is you can get them with 2 different clips or no clip at all. Some even have a leather belt loop sewn on. I don't use clips and don't want the little stub hanging around either. I could not get the OEM (blue) pouch that I ordered extra to fit (too tight) so I sent her back. The black one that came with it fits great with BSE on it (not the sides).

I do, but is it really worth it? LOL.

Just go buy a case!

I thought of that. I just don't like their clip options.

Oh, I will, it's just going to have to wait, 'cause I've been out of work since my last employer closed last year, and there haven't been many prospects around here, so things like BB cases are pretty low on the priority list.

It looks like our economy is beginning to turn the corner though, so things should be picking up soon. For now, I'm using the little pouch that came with the curve. You wanna talk about a sucky case... THAT is a sucky case.
