What GPS programs are unlocked for the Tour?

Besides BB Maps, Google Maps and Poynt, any other GPS programs unlocked for the Tour?

penguin3107 08-03-2009 03:58 PM

All of them.
GPS on the Tour isn't restricted in any way.

jsconyers 08-03-2009 03:58 PM

VZNavigator ;-)

Are you saying that Verizon hasn't crippled GPS and restricted its use to VZNavigator? I haven't heard that before, but that would be awesome.

Yes, that's what I'm saying.
This has been known since before the Tour was even released.

I can concur ... I've downloaded a number of apps related to GPS use and Geocaching, and all of them work great with the Tour. You do need to be outside somewhere; I can't get GPS lock inside any kind of building - but outside it works GREAT.

I am really glad you and rajones responded. I thought it was just the three mentioned. Also BB Weather works for some

BBWeather isn't working for everyone on the Tour?

It's worked for my girlfriend and I since day 1.

I can't get Garmin Mobile to work. It says I need to connect a BT GPS receiver, and only gives me the option to exit. LBS is on, and the app has full permissions

lonewolfman 08-19-2009 07:08 PM

I have the same problem with Garmin.

bdizzlefizzle 08-20-2009 06:37 AM

I spoke to Garmin. Apparently, they have to make a different version for each BB (screen size changes, GPS chip changes, etc). The Tour GPS chip isn't recognized by their software, so it immediately looks for a BT GPS receiver. Unfortunately, that means it ain't gonna work on our unit, and since they sell the license for a single device, you'd have to buy it all over again when they release a version for the Tour.

I have to say, they've made some really stupid and hard-coded decision in their software.

tcumbo 08-20-2009 06:40 AM

This is true - if you go to the Garmin website, you will see that there is no version available for the 9630 (at least not yet). You're using a wrong copy of Mobile and that's why it doesn't work...

Maybe so but it looks liked they newtered BB Maps - I can't find "Where I am" on the fin location section. So what good is a gps if it can't tell you where you are? User's guide says it should be there and I have reloaded it but...

You have AT&T? I could very well be mistaken but I think what he meant to say is that the GPS isn't locked for Verizon users. AT&T may still cripple it.

Or at least cripple that device. There is always cell tower triangulation.:cry::cry:

Blackberry Maps and every other GPS app I have tried work fine on my device.
