Roxio Media Manager will not install

I am running BB Desktop Manager 4.3.0.15 and it has run properly for several months. Today, Roxio Media Manager started trying to install or configure Roxio Media Manager. I get a message saying "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource and is unavailable". The message asks me to find an alternate path to Roxio Media Manager.msi. I inserted the BB User Tools disk where the file is resident but when I directed the installation to D:\files\exec\bbinstaller\SR_MM\Roxio Media Manager.msi, I get a message that the file is not a valid installation file. So, I am stumped. Meanwhile the installer just keeps trying to install. Very aggravating. Any ideas?

koleary19067 03-14-2008 09:12 PM

I have been getting the same error. Also if I close down DM, when i open it again, the application loader is missing.

goldbergs 03-23-2008 08:02 AM

Same or similar problem here.
Every time I open desktop manager, I get the following windows installer error message:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

"Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'BlackBerry 7130.msi in the box below."

I have searched my hard drive and that file does not exist.

I have uninstalled desktop manager, downloaded the latest desktop manager s/w and reinstalled. Same problem every time. I am at a brick wall .... h e l p

any ideas

Roxio Media Player Still Won't Install After Forever

Before the forum crashed not long ago, I was also trying to get my 8310 Curve synced to my desktop – including getting the Roxio Media Player to run. I got several suggestions: install only as an administrator, make sure no firewall or virus protection was running, etc.

Miraculously, on an attempt some two weeks after trying, I was able to get 4.2.2 installed so I could AT LEAST sync my address book, contacts, etc. However, MEDIA PLAYER never showed up in my Desktop Manager.

I am still at a loss what to do and feel the complete idiot. I even reformatted my DELL XPS hard drive hoping it would solve the Windows loader error message I was getting at the last moments of installation of BlackBerry OS. No luck – and what a mess trying to get everything back to where it was on the 300g hard drive.

There must be a forum manager, a BlackBerry expert, or SOMEONE who can help with the simple installation of 4.2.2 or 4.3 or whatever is available and workable for us NON-newbies, but absolutely frustrated users. I hated to even mess with my friend’s iPhone this weekend because I figured this was the Smart phone I would now have to migrate to. I abhor them (except the web browsing), but it seems to have the features I’m going to have to rely on if I have to dump this piece of junk. (I never thought I’d call my 8310 that. Just the GPS makes me high.) But this has gone on for far too long, I haven’t gotten any help here or at the Wi-Fi forum (or with BlackBerry on the phone) to solve the problem. No one seems to know the mystery of why Media Manager won’t load. Fingers are pointed every which way, especially at Vista, and I’m beginning to think it’s not Vista, but BlackBerry not being rigorous in its program development with Vista.

I am afraid to remove what I have on my phone as to end up where I was just a few weeks ago: Every day repeating the same process of removing, reloading, removing, reloading, and yet, never getting Media Manager to work – and afraid I wouldn’t have simple syncing around anymore either. I use this for business and must count on it. I must count on a device that works. (Media Manager must also work as I'm in the final stages of a musical and must hear music sent on a daily basis, which I want to take with me.)

Life was just fine with my 8300, my 8700. What the heck is going on? Can anyone help out there? I’d sure as heck appreciate any new insight(s). I mean, should I just say goodbye to the BlackBerry as my platform/Smartphone of choice and look elsewhere? It just can’t be this difficult.

Thanks guys and gals.

bcreekski 03-24-2008 06:40 PM

I have installed DM on two Vista Home Premium computers and both sync great with Outlook but the rest is inoperable. I installed on a laptop with XP and everything is functional. I have no clue. I would not give up my 8830 since it does everything that a retired person needs. But, it is distressing to me that RIM does virtually no support for these issues and depends on Forums such as this.

Bounce1111 03-25-2008 03:50 PM

I'm on an 8300, but I had the same problem and here's the fix.

I downloaded the latest BlackBerry desktop software from blackberry.com. I downloaded the English version with media manager.

That gives you an .exe file, which is a self-extracting archive.

Use WinZip to unzip the .exe file to a folder. Browse to the SR_MM directory and you'll find "Roxio Media Manager.msi".

The next time you are asked for the location of Roxio Media Manager.msi, click browse, and browse to the file that you extracted above. Let it install, reboot when it's done, and you should be good to go.

That worked for me, anyway. Blackberry 8300. BES. WinXP Pro SP2.

Your Mileage May Vary.

baladegoma 03-26-2008 08:27 AM

Bounce1111, this is a new option that may just provide some hope.

Nevertheless, you're saying you've got a 8300. I've got a 8310, WinVista. I won't be going back to XP as, although I liked it as an OS and the stability was terrific, I'm now married to Vista on both Desktop and Laptop.

Looks like Windows update came out with a PATCH YESTERDAY for BLACKBERRY SMARTPHONES!!!! I was so jazzed, I nearly freaked. But, wouldn't you know it? The patch would NOT DOWNLOAD. I tried a gazillion times. It's a small file, too. Obviously, Microsoft has been listening to someone as they tried to help, but not enough. Microsoft was "nice enough" to tell you what to do if the patch did not install. KEEP TRYING, KEEP TRYING. Had to go to work, so, I only had, maybe, 50 attempts at getting the patch to download AND WORK, which it didn't.

And bcreeksi, you deserive props for saying it like it is:

:x But, it is distressing to me that RIM does virtually no support for these issues and depends on Forums such as this.

I don't want to dis anyone who has helped me in the past or is helping other members, but my problem is the problem of litterally HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of other users OR WILL BE. RIM should be on this like white on rice as they're about to lose this customer and to a device THIS CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT, BUT WOULD ONLY PURCHASE BECAUSE IT WOULD BE A DEVICE THAT WOULD WORK WHERE HIS RIM 8310 DOESN'T. I don't want an iPhone because I can't get a friggin' media player to work. I don't want to have to text wth my finger at a 90 degree angle to a key. I want raised buttons where I can text in my hand while cough, driving, or, in a meeting.

PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP WITH GETTING 4.2.2. OS INSTALLED ON MY 8310 WITH THE MEDIA PLAYER SO I CAN USE WHAT I BOUGHT. THE GPS IS THE FRIGGIN' BOMB, AND WORKS BEAUTIFULLY. BUT I NEED THE MEDIA PLAYER FOR WORK. AND, I THINK I PAID FOR IT.

Sorry for the screaming. But I've had enough.

Thanks again.

I'm still hoping that this issue gets resolved!!!

Got Media Manager On The Laptop But Not The Desktop

OK, thought I’d update you on where this adventure has taken me.

First, I’ll say that I decided to load 4.3 on my Dell XPS/Vista/Laptop. A sweet machine. Anyway, of course, this is the last thing one would think after all my posts (including all the ones prior to the server crash.)

Well, I didn’t have a single problem! 4.3 downloaded and Media Manager had a link in Desktop Manager. I should be jumping for joy, but there’s STILL the matter of my desktop. (More to come on that.) As far as the laptop, all went well and at least there’s a way to keep a calendar and get some music on the 8310. (Music on the 8310 is important because of a project I’m working on. It’s easier to listen to music sent to my Curve than to a Curve then off-loading it an iPod. You get my drift. The Curve has the power to handle to music, it’s a phone -- keeps it simple all on one device – at least, for preliminary music sharing for the project.) So, for now, until I can get the desktop to get MEDIA MANAGER to exist, I’ll rely on the laptop.

Since the fiascos with 4.2.2 on the desktop, I decided to shoot for 4.3. Why not shoot for the moon, when you’re sinking in the muck of an installation onto a desktop that just won’t happen. Happily, it installed WITHOUT MEDIA MANAGER mind you, but I, at least, have another computer, my principal one, the desktop, where I can keep another calendar to complement the laptop. BUT NO MEDIA MANAGER.

Question for BOUNCE IIII. Taken from your post:

[BOUNCEIIII] I downloaded the latest BlackBerry desktop software from blackberry.com.

[END OF BOUNCEIIII]

1) BounceIIII, when I downloaded the 4.3, I didn’t find a download that was an English version. It was Multilanguage. I did go to BlackBerry’s site, but ended up with ATT’s version.

2) The file was an “.exe” for 4.3. I’m confused whether or not there was another “.exe” to which you refer.

3) From what was unzipped in my installation, I cannot find what you mention: Roxio Media Manager.msi

Now, remember I’m working with Vista. It’s definitely different than XP. Searching in Vista is DIFFERENT and I’m not all that positive in saying so. I haven’t manually tried to find this file, but will try. Searching in Vista means you search “Everywhere” or what’s been “Indexed.” At any rate, no .msi file..

In addition to BounceIIII, anyone out there with a similar problem that has a solution. i.e., installing 4.2.2 or 4.3 and actually getting Media Manager to appear and be operable so that you can deal with music and photos on your device????

RIM. ARE YOU LISTENING?? Can YOU help? We love your devices, but you’re nowhere to be seen after the purchase.

klb 04-03-2008 03:28 PM

I'm having the same problem. Roxio Media Manager just won't install on my computer. I'm wondering if I need an admin to log into my computer to install Desktop Manager.

003402 04-03-2008 03:40 PM

I too tried to install RMM a number of times on vista. It never worked. I gave up and then just dragged and dropped my music into the folders on the BB and worked like a champ. no need for RMM in my world.

steve47714 04-03-2008 08:58 PM

I had this problem. I'm still trying to re-find the page that I downloaded. The problem was not in the Roxio or in the Desktop Mgr software. The problem was that windows couldn't see it right.
After making changes to the appropriate configuration files everything installed perfectly and has run fine for about 2 months. Of course I filed it where I could find it again if I needed it...

Roxio Media Manager error - downloading 4.5 English

Downloading the latest 4.5 English, unzipping it and then locating the file Roxio Media Manager was complaining about worked for me too!

Thanks.

Kenneth L Glick, M.D. 06-22-2008 08:37 PM

I have XP on my computer and have the same issue. I have unstalled, reinstalled, etc...but still it gives the looking for RoxioMediaManager.msi.
So it clearly is not a problem only for Vista. Someone help. It is driving me crazy. It happens with 4.3 and 4.5

PTravel 06-23-2008 03:50 AM

I just went through this installing 4.3 on my Vista computer. After many, many hours, here's what I did:

1. I did a complete, clean uninstall of all Blackberry, Roxio and Sonic software (Sonic will interfere with Roxio). This entailed cleaning out registry entries, deleting files from a number of locations and then re-registering ATL.DLL.

Instructions are here. Make sure that, in addition to scrubbing the Blackberry software, you also delete the Roxio software.

2. I reset all registry permissions using the SUBINACL technique described here. In case you're worried about doing this, there are identical instructions on Microsoft's website, but I don't have time to look for them now. Registry permission issues seem to have become chronic with the release of Vista SP1 and XP SP3.

3. Re-boot.

4. Download the Desk Manager software for whatever version you're installing. DO NOT RUN IT YET. Extract all the files (using WinZip or something similar) to a temporary folder on your hard drive.

5. Download the Blackberry Device Manager software. Install it.

6. Once it completes, go to the folder to which you extracted the Desk Manager software. Find the SETUP.EXE file. Double-click on it and it will install the Device Manager software and then the Roxio Media Manager.

On my system it installed perfectly using this technique. If, however, you get the "can't find the XXXXX.msi" error message, you'll be able to point the installer to where you extracted the Desk Manager installation software.

This took me, literally, 7 hours to work out, including at least 2 hours on the phone with various techs at RIM -- I finally got someone in Singapore (!!) who really knew what he was doing and got me started on the right track. This technique addresses a number of potential problems and it's hard to say which is responsible for the problem we've been experiencing. However, it does work. Just be patient -- all the steps take time, particularly re-setting registry permissions.

At any rate, I no longer have the Roxio Media Manager issue and everything works.

Good luck!

Roxio Media Manager.msi

If you have trouble loading this file. Look at the path that is suggested by the program and remove the last back slash (\) after SR_MM. It should work then.

That won't work unless you've manually extracted the files as I detailed in my post. When this was happening to me, I did a file search and none of the .msi files requested were on the computer.

Same Roxio problem - reloaded XP - worked fine

I had the ROXIO problem when recently attempting to load it with AT&T Technical Support's help. I had been having laptop driver issues.

I finished an OS reload of XP and Roxio then loaded fine. Reportedly its pretty finicky about the OS condition.

YMMV ...

jddphd 07-27-2008 06:52 AM

I downloaded DM 4.5 and had this problem after rebooting -- all the temp files had been cleared so RMM couldn't finish installing.

Bounce1111 has the answer - worked like a charm. I did mine a little differently...

I still had the DM .exe file around so I doubleclicked on it as if I were going to install DM again. This caused the .exe file to reextract its contents in the same temporary directory as it had previously done. Note that I didn't go any further than double clicking on the .exe file. The DM setup wizard came on and told me I was getting ready to install DM, but I never clicked NEXT (the first setup screen is simply an indication that the files have been extracted). Anyway, once I saw that screen I went back to RMM finished the Roxio Media Manager installation. It prompted me to restart, at which point I cancelled out of the DM installation and restarted.

This is how to fix it... I just did it...

For those confused, just open winzip, and target this .exe file. I personally had the "Multi-Language" version of the desktopsoftware4.3(multilanguage) exe file...

gwbarton 08-01-2008 11:51 PM

Still struggling...

I have tried all off the above.... Roxio installs but it will not launch from the DM... :x Tried launching from the folder

I think I am going postal...

Any other suggestions?

DM= 4.5.0.15
8310 = 4.5.0.55

what_smells 10-19-2008 03:24 PM

I don't know if this solution will solve any of your problems, but it solved mine for my Curve 8330.

When I installed Blackberry Desktop and Roxio Media Manager that comes with it, the Windows Installer froze as it was finishing. This leaves the temporary files on your computer and corrupts the install/uninstall files. Every time I'd start my computer, I'd be prompted to restart the computer to "complete Roxio's installation." As soon as it would finish rebooting, it would prompt me to restart again like before. If I said "Restart later" it would close all my programs and restart anyway. My computer was useless because any time I'd start it up, it would restart before I could do anything.

The solution I found was this:
1) Right click on My Computer and select Manage
2) Double click on Services and Applications
3) Double click on Services
4) Double click on Windows Installer at the bottom of the list
5) Under Startup Type, change it from Manual to Disabled
6) Either insert the CD or download the installer for Blackberry Desktop Manager, and run it. You can also go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove Blackberry/Roxio software.
7) Restart your computer, turn Windows Installer back to Manual, and reinstall the program fully.

Keep in mind with step #6 that you'll need to turn Windows Installer back to Manual before uninstalling Roxio/Blackberry, and turn it to Disabled again before it restarts your computer. I don't know if this is the answer you guys are looking for, but hopefully it helps.

howlingthunder 10-30-2008 08:57 AM

Extracting all contents from the b015.exe worked for me. Thanks for the tip!

HungrySage 10-30-2008 06:05 PM

After installing roxio, I find it a piece of sh*t. Freezes non-stop, and doesn't load or takes way too long. Though, this is only when it is reading my device or syncing it. Other then that, it is ok (without the device).

Thanks to all for this discussion and good advice. You made it easy for me to clear up this same problem.

This worked for me. I had a situation where the Windows installer was constantly running trying to install the Roxio Media Manager. Problem was, the temporary files that the BB install had created to install Roxio had been removed already so the install kept failing. I would modify the instructions slightly:

The solution I found was this:
1) Right click on My Computer and select Manage
2) Double click on Services and Applications
3) Double click on Services
4) Double click on Windows Installer at the bottom of the list
5) Under Startup Type, change it from Manual to Disabled
6) Cancel the installation of Roxio Media Manager and wait a few minutes until you're sure its finished
7) Change startup type back to manual
8) Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove Blackberry software.
9) Download the installer for Blackberry Desktop Manager, change the extension from .exe to .zip, extract the files to disk, and run the BB install.
10) delete the extracted BB installation software and .zip file

Another solution

Hi, all,

I didn't try the exhaustive registry clean-out method, but nothing else worked. I have Vista Business and BB 8310. I also have Roxio MyDVD software installed which also uses Roxio Media Manager, just to make it even more fun. :?

What worked for me was:
  1. Unzip the combined installer file to a folder as described earlier in this thread.
  2. Let the Desktop Manager install. I was installing version 4.7.
  3. Click Cancel when Roxio Media Manager.msi cannot be found.
  4. Now after canceling the failed Roxio install, open the SR_MM folder and right click SETUP.EXE.
  5. Choose Run as Administrator (note: I also disabled antivirus, Windows Firewall, and User Account Control, but I'm not sure if that's necessary really.)

This made it install fine for me.

Good luck to all.

Holy Roxio...........

Ok, story so far ...
Xp, usual up to date updates ... DM 4.7 ...
Can I get Roxio Media Manager to install ?? can I feck ....
I admit to being stumped on this one after trying all of the above. Roxio refuses to install and the process just hangs, sucking up 100% CPU resources. Ok, my life doesn't depend on this, but it's nice to find solutions to those things that defy all reason, so I'd appreciate some further thoguhts ...

Thanks: What a pain - I had the ismu.msi problem and your solution to download the latest version worked great. During the install it asked me to remove older versions of the Roxio files and I clicked yes. I think this is finally what stopped the update manager from switching on everytime I started my computer.

Just another confirmation: this worked fine.
Honestly, my BB experience has not been good. I'm one or two more headaches away from a different phone.
Thank you for the fix.

One more confirmation -- the solution described by Bounce1111 on 3/25/2008 worked great using the latest version of Desktop Manager (v.5.0) with my BB Storm on Windows XP Pro. Thanks!!

lajster 08-05-2009 09:10 AM

I tried that but it's telling me that it's not a valid installation package. I've tried to remove the entire desktop program but Windows (XP) won't let me because I have an installation in progress (Roxio).

If anyone has any ideas PLEASE help!

Hi,

I faced to the same trouble like all the others here.
I have the latest version of BB desktop manager with Roxio Media manager, but the same problem occurs in every third minute.
By Process Explorer I found that this not requested install process is started by a program called agent.exe. Provider of this application is Macrovision.

If I manage to solve this problem I will post it.
I must solve because this makes me crazy.....

I have the same problem and have been trying for hours, still no resolution. Yes, I tried reinstalling, but I can't reinstall if the installer can't be killed. I also tried installing in safe mode but that won't work b/c installer won't run in safe mode.

This is the most GOD AWEFULL program ever. I will never use ROXIO or BB again. It's more like MALWARE. Don't even touch this with a 10 foot pole!

bardberry 10-16-2009 09:07 AM

I also had this problem. Every time I rebooted windows installer would come up and try to install from a path that didn't exist.

I used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and just disabled windows installer for Roxio.

Correct about Roxio and wrong about BB. Roxio is a bloated hog that gives all kinds of problems, which are well documented on internet forums. Manufactures bundle this crappy software with new computers and BB made a mistake to bundle it with Desktop Manager.

The solution is to install DM without Roxio, use the installation file "without media manager":

Of course first you would need to uninstall your current DM, the one with Roxio.

So it took hours to clean up this mess. One of which was just getting to a person at Blackberry support who knew what they were doing.

He had me go through and eliminate any directory and registry entries with RIM, Roxio, or Sonic.

We then installed Windows Installer Cleanup Utility but that was tricky since Roxio kept the installer running and didn't allow anything else to be installed. So we had to disable Windows Installer temporarily to kill Roxio. Then we started the process up again and quickly launched the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. We then removed any entry relating to RIM, Roxio, or Sonic.

This is the most GOD AWEFULL program ever. Don't use ROXIO or Blackberry desktop.

This worked like a charm!

Great suggestion for my issue without the pain and suffering of uninstalling and reinstalling software with multiple reboots. Yuk!

Cure to the missing RoxioMediaManager.msi Problem

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

I have searched my hard drive and that file does not exist.

I have uninstalled desktop manager, downloaded the latest desktop manager s/w and reinstalled. Same problem every time. I am at a brick wall .... h e l p

any ideas

;-) Theres another guy on here that has posted this, so I cannot take the credit for it. I just want to say, I tried his reply and it worked. This is what I did:

1) Downloaded a free copy of Winzip14

2) Installed the Winzip on my PC

3) After installation, the winzip will remain open. If not, go under the Start, then programs and open winzip, clicking on the use evaluation copy unless you want to purchase it.

4) Make sure you have downloaded the latest copy of the Blackberry Desktop Software. At this time it is 501_b030_english.exe. You need to make a directory that you can store the files that winzip is going to extract out of 501_b030_english.exe. I labeled mine Winzip Blackberry Files. Choose whatever is good for you.

5) Going back to the Winzip program, click on open (Make sure it is set to all files instead of zip files at the bottom of the file open box) then go to the directory where you have stored the Blackberry 501.... file and click on the 501_b030_english.exe for winzip to open.

6) When it is done, winzip will have 40 files there and in those files is the RoxioMediaManager.MSI file.

7) This step is what worked for me, if you do something different, it is up to you. I selected all 40 of the files and dragged them into the Winzip Blackberry Files directory that I created earlier. You can do what you want to. You can select just the RoxioMM.MSI file and copy it into a directory for the next steps use.

8) I copied the RoxioMediaManager.MSI file and pasted it into the windows\system32\ directory.

9) When the install box popped up about the missing RMM.MSI file, I directed it to the windows\system32\ directory and it took care of the problem.

My hats off to the guy that originally posted this fix. I tried to be a little more detailed for us not so experienced guys that are equally frustrated with this problem.

Thanks.:bb:

I have seen several solutions here to the Roxio Media Manager msi problem, but no one has addressed the problem I am having.....

Roxio Media Manager KEEPS trying to install itself, so that I cannot uninstall it, or install any other programs to "clean it up".

Can anyone help me? I DO NOT need the desktop software this bad!

Thank you.

Using Winzip to bypass the .exe file is the answer

Thanks guys, I tried everything. But all you have to do is unzip the contents
of the install.exe file into any directory. Then when Roxio occasionally ask for
the location of it's file, point it to the unzipped directory, and HOORAY! IT IS
FIXED, and some other Roxio caused problems as well.

Fix for Roxio media manager installation issues

This drove me nuts for awhile. Here is what worked for me.

1. Find your Blackberry Desktop installation package on your HDD. Note that it may not say anything about "Blackberry". In my case it was something like 501_bo49_multilanguage.exe if I remember correctly.
2. Put it into it's own folder.
3. Go to the folder and right click the file (do not double click). Select Winzip (you need to have winzip installed on your computer). Select "extract here". It'll take a few minutes.
4. Re-start your PC if you're stopped the windows install process. If it's still showing you the error message that it can't find Roxio Media Manager.msi, select browse. Browse to the folder you just created and double click Roxio Media Manager.msi. It should complete installation and you'll get a message that you need to re-boot your system.
5. Re-boot and you should be good to go. It worked for me.

Good luck!

Oh Dear!! What a mess! I don't seem to be able to unzip the *.msi file I just get ( Error 0 Access denied ) from winzip. If I could do this then maybe I could point the installer at that place and the installation would finish. I don't really know winzip anyway, can anyone advise please?

Blackberry MediaManager Problems.

If you are having problems with mediamanager.
Software that came with your Blackberry.
Uninstall it, plus unistall Roxio creator if installed.
May have to use a register cleaner once unistalled i.e. RegCure.
Now go to Blackberry web site
type in at google search:- Blackberry media manager download,
Download version 5
When download complete - install
Don't plug phone into PC until fully installed.
Download is about 260MB.
Once install plug phone into PC via usb cable.
Check media manager works unplug phone and
reinstall Roxio Creator (2009).
Tried with version 4.7 and below but no success.

Easy Method for 9530 Users?

I had this same problem (using a 9530 and running XP SP3); Media Manager attempting to install every time I restarted. I tried the method above but reinstalling didn't work. What did work was this:

A) Downloading the Desktop Manager installer, renaming it as a zip and extracting to disk as step 9 above says (I set up a dummy folder on my desktop to extract into).
B) I then restarted the system, waited for the Roxio installer to run and tell me it couldn't find the Media Manager.msi file.
C) I pointed the Roxio installer to search the Desktop Manager installer extraction folder on my desktop (hit the browse button next to the file path), it immediately found the missing .msi file and completed its installation.

Seems almost TOO easy...

Props to WPWoodJr for the idea of extracting the installer, I never would have.

Roxio & BlackBerry Rant

Who writes this cr@ppy software? :-P (RIM - give your heads a shake. Just because the corporate weenies in the gray suits still believe your device is best & most secure will not keep you in business forever...)

I have given my BB 9700 to my wife because it couldn't do some of the most basic database tasks that my 8 year old Palm device could handle with ease. She is content to do email & texting along with the phone - not too many demands.

The BB DM installation on my wife's computer brought along this Roxio Malware with it & virtually paralyzed her system. I've eliminated it after some effort using some of the clues & tips provided by this board but is it any wonder people give up & move to a friendlier device like the iPhone? My several months with BB were like going back to DOS or Windows 3.1 ferreting out little program lines that need deleting etc. Good software should not require the user to access their system registry to make it work.

The iPhone is not perfect by a long shot, but it provides me with much more functionality with a lot less in the way of these ridiculous & frustrating technical issues. It just works. In comparison, the BB is quirky & buggy to an extreme. To think that one should have to find un-official builds of the device software, just to fix memory leaks is absurd.

Shame on you RIM. Maybe when your CEO gets the hockey distractions off his desk, he can spend a little time refocusing the company on providing devices & software that actually work for their customers.

Invalid Roxio .msi file ??

Many thanks to all who have posted solutions to this infuriating problem.

I get all the way to the step of pointing the Roxio installer to the Roxio Media Manager.msi file, which I had extracted from the Blackberry Desktop installer.

But then I'm getting an error message that the RMM.msi file isn't valid. Any suggestions?

I am in the same boat. Uninstalled 6.0 with BB 9800. Did force remove of all Registry entries and folders. Rebooted at every step. Tried to install DM and still Roxio error. I do not want Roxio.

If I cancel the installer, it works, but I cannot sync OUtlook. It gives all kinds of errors. NOt sure if anything to do with it. Installer then gives error 1714. Back to square 1.

But I am sick of it. It is going back to ATT.

RIM is down and out.

steakman 09-06-2010 09:49 PM

Very interersting thread.

On my HP Compaq 6510b, our company runs Roxio as the DVD/CD buring software. On two separate occasions, I have installed BB DM. Both times things went to hell in a heartbeat. I end up losing functionality with my Desktop Roxio App..So I have to remove it from the laptop. No question, there is a serious compatibility issue with BB and Roxio.

Now I get DOS/command line Screens for some sort of diagnostics everytime I boot the laptop. Roxio suite is gone, I do have the latest DM but have not used the "media" sync or anything else to do with media files....use windows for that. For DVD/CD buring, I use drag to disc.....simply dont have time to dick around with it. Very frustrating..

For a World Class pce of equipment, the support/Customer service is virtually non existant....as noted previously, it will, in the end, cost RIM the lifeblood of their company, their customers.
