8800 ebay scam alert

eBay: Brand New Blackberry 8800 unlocked (item 290083890047 end time Feb-17-07 23:03:58 PST)

Check out the sellers other items and note his past sales were from the UK and now he is in the US!

Another HiJacked account with a seperate email address!

When will people learn to stop following URLs in emails and giving out your personal info!

That's not the half of it, if you read his auction it states to email him for the $400 price. I doubt if you even get anything if you read his auction!

i wasnt planning on buying from ebay, but good looking out

kasperapd 02-15-2007 05:15 PM

You think they'd at least put the correct picture of the 8800 on it.

greggebhardt 02-15-2007 05:51 PM

I see and report these everyday. I feel sorry for the MANY that do not know better as there are so many of these scam auctions, lots of poeple must be getting pulled in.

I use eBay alot and if done correctly, it can be a safe place. I do see more and more scammers in eBay everyday!

Thanks for the heads up. I wonder how he got so many positive ratings?

Check out the catagory the item is listed in:

Toys & Hobbies > Action Figures > Star Wars > NeoClassic (1990-2000) > Power of the Force 1995 > Figures

Nice Star Wars figure.

sonydude23 02-16-2007 12:13 AM

Well it's gone now. Gues they figured out it was suspicious. Great catch!!

An eBay-scam? Say it ain't so! (aren't they virtually synonymous?)

Very sad that any large enterprise enables fraud on a scale this large. Don't be surprised when intervention occurs since eBay hasn't it within them to police themselves terribly well.

Perfect Storm 02-16-2007 10:29 AM

Yup, I just found out my headset was fake a couple weeks ago. It explained why it stopped working.

Good info!(y) Look at this one,

eBay: New Blackberry 8800 unlocked phone Free FedEx Shipping (item 140085479823 end time Feb-19-07 11:05:14 PST)

As of now the bid is at $1,025.00. Interestingly the auction ends on the 19th.

eBay: NEW BLACKBERRY 8800 UNLOCKED PHONE (item 160084280803 end time Feb-20-07 17:19:58 PST)

This one is also up to $1025 and ends on the 20th.

nuncles 02-16-2007 10:47 AM

I can't believe anyone would pay that much for a phone just for its style. Now if it drove my car to work in them morning while I slept, it may be another story.

backbeat 02-16-2007 10:49 AM

And about that Positive feedback, it's a broken (and corrupted) system for anyone with the will to abuse.

Just for grins, I email the seller and asked why he didn't post a picture of the actual device instead of using stock photos from RIM's website. His response was, "If you don't like it bro, don't bid on it." Gotta love ebay.

I'll guarantee you he doesn't have it yet. He is banking on the 21st release date. Not sure if he pre-ordered some or if you can even do that. Would be interesting to see if it is shipped from the seller or another location!

Sparkomatic 02-16-2007 11:36 AM

Oh, he totally doesn't have it. That's why I asked him for the pic

Seems like that's become the norm on ebay these days for high tech electronics. Put up an auction for an item in the hopes that you'll get it the day it comes out.

What's even more funny is there's an auction up now for an 8800 that ends on Feb 25th. It's up to $450.00. So, if it goes over $500, you'll be paying a higher price than if you went into the store on the 21st (if in fact they're in stores that day)!

Let's hope that no one here is stupid enough to allow their enthusiasm to get that far to find out.
