BB9900 Changes On Its Own

I have a BB9900 and the phone resets to the default background at least once a day. I've updated and restarted my phone and it still does it. I'm also running the latest firmware.

Is there any way to stop this?

Is your selected background image is stored on the media card? And are you noticing any issues with the media card?

If the image is on the card, copy it over to device storage memory and set it to background from there, and see what happens. If the problem stops, you might test using another media card.

EDIT: Also see the following.

Based on the info there, I think I might also try deleting all the .dat files.

I downloaded a few new pictures onto my phone yesterday and saved them onto the device rather than the media card but the phone still switches to the default wallpaper randomly at least once a day.

What are .dat files? And why would the phone only start doing this starting about a month ago? I've had this phone since November and it has never done this before.

Re: BB9900 Changes On Its Own

The .dat files are created by the BlackBerry, I believe. I'm not sure exactly what they do. I suspect they store sort of "shortcut" info for the media apps. I became familiar with them when people would have trouble with the audio player (back even before a BlackBerry had a video player) not show tracks, not playing tracks all the way through, skipping tracks, weird problems. The cause is corrupted .dat files. The solution is to detelete the .dat files. It doesn't hurt anything. The BlackBerry will recreate them as needed.

When searching on your issue I saw someone recommed delete the .dat files. It made some sense in that maybe your BlackBerry is forgetting what pic is used as wallpaper because of a corrupt .dat file. I don't know, of course, if this is in fact possible, but it does seem plausible and it is worth a try.

My other idea was that your media card is starting to flake out. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

The .dat files are hidden. You can use the computer to search for them on the media card and device storage memory, and delete them.

If you happen to have media encryption enabled the .dat files will be .dat.rem files.

Other than that, I'm stumped if this isn't the problem.
