Trackball Color

When I had my BB Pearl 8100 there was a way to make your trackball change colors. Is there a way to do that with the Curve?

abu_gaby 08-10-2008 03:35 AM

the curve doesn't have this feature only the pearl

jjd228 08-10-2008 11:00 AM

nope, you can do it with the curve via software

g4rr3tt 08-10-2008 12:47 PM

Cant change the color of the curve via software.

You get only one LED on the Curve but it comes with 3 settings: Off, Dim, and Full Bright. Enjoy those settings.

I like how my post was deleted...thanks mods/admins...anyway, I posted that you CAN change the color of the SMDs on there, but your best bet is to open it up, and put colored tape over it, or color the actual SMD.

Give it up, dude... the OP is NOT asking how to desolder and replace any components on his phone.

Finally, NO BODY DELETED ANYTHING. Here's your post from Friday:

1. He was asking how to change the color, and I gave him THREE possible options of doing it, now, how you perceive that one of the options is completely out of the question is not my business, but I will say that it can be done, and it is one of the options, so don't go saying it's not.

2. Yes, one of my posts was, it was on this thread, and I was the first one to reply, I stated the same things I stated above, but when I came back today, the post had been deleted, and people were once again saying "No, it can't be changed." So get your facts right.

So, ValHas, there are three or four ways you can change the colors, three of those ways are easy, one way will give you better looks, but it is harder to accomplish. (number four being cellophane put over the SMD).

Just to avoid confusion...Mr. Modworkz likes to tell people that removing and resoldering in a new led is the answer to the question. While removing and resoldering an LED is an option, it's not going to be the option for most people here. Anyone with the knowledge needed to perform this "procedure" wouldn't come here and ask about changing the color of the trackball. And if they did happen to have that kind of technical knowledge, and got the answer "no, it's not possible," they'd obviously know that they could resolder in a new LED.

To be clear, this isn't an option for just anyone and isn't supported by anyone at BBF. It will DEFINITELY void any warranty you may have.

I deleted your first reply in this thread, because it really wasn't very helpful:

So I guess you are catching on: your method is not for the common user.

I have an idea--should you wish to write up a step-by-step LED soldering instruction with pictures, etc., I would consider placing it in the FAQ section here.

Your choice. And then those who wished to use this method would have a guide.

look this works great get a tiny piece of tissue paper and color it with your favorite maker, (i used crayola blue) then remove your trackball and place the tiny piece over the light and whola!!!

Martyn 08-11-2008 09:19 AM

how do i change it from low dim bright etc??

TumTum 08-11-2008 09:41 AM

Sounds like DaMan's solution is very similar to the one that got deleted...I think everyone needs to realize people are looking for a legitmate way to change the color, not a way to take apart their device and potentially ruin something....my two cents: don't do anything that would void the warranty!!

JSanders 08-11-2008 09:52 AM

The post which was deleted was deleted for another reason and it doesn't really matter. Yes, the colored paper is a great idea which has been discussed and used since the beginning of the RIM trackballs.
