New user help please
Hi. I am a new user to the Blackberry. I have found it a completely different phone to others I have had and am enjoying it so fr. I have been looking at apps and have so far downloaded the Desktop Software but have been unable to download apps succesfully.
From the Blackberry App World, I tried downloading, it connected, asked for a pin, which was available in the drop down box, but then threw up an 'App World Plug In Error' and 'Your device is not running a supported operating system' Can anyone help? Lee |
Re: New user help please
Welcome to the group. Yes, BlackBerrys are different.
I'm not sure about the error message. You probably searched. I did as well and came up with squat. But, do you have a BlackBerry data plan, i.e. data service for BlackBerrys? Regular mobile data service will not do in this case, and for other BlackBerry applications that require data. If you do not, then that is probably the answer, but at any rate you will need the BlackBerry data plan to use App World, BBM, etc. |
Re: New user help please
I believe you got this error on your desktop? I have seen the same error if I use Firefox so for BB App World I usually use IE and works fine. When you use the BB AW on your device first it will ask you to create the user name and then it will let you download the apps. Also BBAW keep track of you BB device's PIN.
Welcome to forum and good luck |

Do I need this to be able to install apps on my phone also? Can I not download a simple app which does not require internet on my phone without the Blackberry Plan? Thanks |
Re: New user help please
You will need BlackBerry data service to use the RIM/BlackBerry apps, including BBM. Many aftermarket, or third-party apps also require BlackBerry data service. You will also need BlackBerry data service to download apps OTA (over the air).
You can do desktop installs if you have or can download the desktop installer files. And if the. Files do not require BlackBerry data (i.e. they use the carrier apn) then you many be able to use them. See blackberryfaq.com. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
